Why don't people grow up and get a normal name rather than a little infant's name?

8. I think that stuff comes from their first assignments.
When you're weathergirl in Kansas or local puppy news in Philly, you get stuck with the cutsie name. As you move along, it just sticks.

You see it with some male reporters, Rickys, Tommys, I even saw a Davy once, and it wasn't on the Monkees.

I think it's just a throwback to the old-boys network that news has been since the beginning.

Sexism is alive and F well everywhere when a weather female is a weather "girl" and
has to have plump, fake tits peeking out of her dress and a name like, "Brandy" to get hired. We women are still living in a truly messed up world. :(

36. It's a rather old fad....
in the South, there's a tradition to name children with a family name - both daughters and sons. So when John Smith marries Jane Taylor, they name their daughter Taylor Smith. When William Jones marries Susan Harris, they name their son Harris Jones. And when Taylor Smith marries Harris Jones, their son/daughter will be saddled with Smith Jones.

...there will be an entire generation of females named "Britney".

Just think, one day there will be a Supreme Court justice whose first name is Britney and whose last name will be hyphenated.

And she will sign everything with hearts and flowers.

(ADDED ON EDIT)
Oh, I believe it has to do with parents forgetting that their precious snowflake will grow up one day. Maybe they hope little Candy will always stay a princess!?

39. well, the appeal of names is a matter of taste, I guess
Currently, cutsie names like Mandy, Amber, or Brittany for girls, or Cody, Wyatt, or Josh for boys make me feel icky-poo. Not very presidential names.

Maybe parents will go back to old American names like Butch or Rusty, or Hazel or Wilma.

But I shouldn't be casting stones; my mom nearly named me "Ponyboy". True Story.

45. Men with stupid names...
...aside from Scooter, how can we forget The Krongard Brothers?

The GOP boys who worked in tandem to give Blackwater everything they wanted!

One was on the board of Blackwater, the other was the Inspector General for the State Department who was charged with investigating Blackwater.

Their names? "Cookie" and "Buzzy".

Okay, that's their nicknames, but seriously. Anyone over 40 shouldn't insist on being called "Cookie" of "Buzzy".
