Guys - I will be live on KPFK TODAY - Wednesday the 9th!
I think you can listen online:

http://www.kpfk.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=260&Itemid=82

Great, well-established progressive counter-culture FM news/talk station - part of the Pacifica Radio family here in L.A. YAY!

They've invited me to join their political coverage, periodically, from now until November! It'll probably wind up being once a month but, hey! WAY cool!

I. Am. THRILLED!

It'll be for an hour, from 2p - 3p, pacific time - barring any preemptions.

I will have two guests in the second half-hour - one speaking about Obama, the other about Clinton.

The first half-hour will be basically me being interviewed by one of the programming executives there.

CHEERS!

:toast: :patriot: :headbang:

2. Thanks! I am utterly stoked!
They said I'm not supposed to be partisan - as in endorsing a candidate, but I can indicate preferences, if you will, in interviews and such.

4. Thank you!
They've always been a fun station. They were "favorites" of the FBI back during the Patty Hearst era. Great place - a real landmark for the ears. Lots of great history. I feel like I actually earned a little street cred.

If I can't listen live, I'll check the archive page later.

20. I just feel really nervous and grateful at this point. And hopeful. Reason is -
they said I could bring my own bumper music. I asked. So I'm gonna bring a couple of my son's original songs. Both of 'em have some really good, driving intros that might make some useful theme music. ACIDIC Rocks!!!

23. I don't know. But I'll find out.
They asked me to come up with two guests. I'm not sure if that's always supposed to be in-studio or via the phone, or if there are open-phones on this particular show. But I'll know by the end of the afternoon. My two guests will both be live in studio.

One of them is a composer/liberal activist who wrote a song about Barack Obama that's VERY catchy - a real earworm. It makes you move and want to sing along. And he's making it into a video for Youtube - hopefully to help the Obama campaign.

The other is an activist, writer, and advocate for "Group Hillary." So I think I've got some balance going there.

They've told me I can't advocate for a candidate, myself, but I can still show my leanings via the conversation and the choice of guests.

24. Got it here!
"my friends. . ." Friends don't send friends to slaughter based on thoroughly bogus intelligence.

Friends don't send friends to die for a lie.

And any other permutations thereof. Whatever helps it stick.

See, what else is SO good about your line is how beautifully it completely perverts the whole smarmy "my friends" signature of his.

Use this often enough and suddenly the term "my friends" takes on some more meaning (and NOT the kind of meaning mcsame has in mind). It layers the whole "my friends" salutation with something negative and up-ends it, knocking it flat on its ass. Soon enough, the seed will be planted that - hey, maybe you don't wanna be friends with this guy. It might cost you your life - or maybe an arm or a leg.

This is REALLY important because SOMEHOW, SOME WAY, we HAVE TO break this awful cycle of voting for somebody because of the "I dunno, I just LIKE him." Or the "gee, I could go have a beer with him!" If we can't break the cycle outright, then we have to at least pee in its pickle barrel, so perhaps at least a few people who would knee-jerkedly go there might have a second thought or two - "yeah, I like him alright - but - well, I just don't know..."

That emotional, visceral, subconscious reaction of the whole - "I'm voting for him because he's the kind of guy I could go have a beer with" - has been very well-planted, unfortunately. And at a very deep, subliminal (subliminable?) level, so it's gonna be a hard one to overcome. But it simply HAS TO be addressed. Because it gave us george w. bush, AND also ronald reagan, and if we're not relentless about it, it'll give us john mccain, too. If people wanna go there, then let's help them go there and then start feeling some hesitation. Hopefully SERIOUS hesitation. And it's kind of a fun idea, don't you think, to take one of kkkarl rove's pet battle strategies (attack them at their strengths) and knocks it on its ass.

34. Now you are really cracking me up.
I've never thought of myself as Rovian before.

National security. . .my butt. Pissing off most of the world does not in any way insure greater national security.

It's such bull.

I may just have to have an identity crisis now.

Again, good luck and do let us know how it goes.

25. Thank you! I hope so.
DU has helped to prepare me for this kind of stuff. When I was on the air before, it was always in the capacity of being a news reporter or anchor. I believed strongly that it was important to be as objective and unbiased as possible, and I wasn't supposed to be giving opinions. In this sort of set-up, I have a bit more flexibility along those lines, without being a flat-out advocate.

I had a friend doing morning drive news at another station across town back when I was working fulltime, and he changed the title of the news inserts from "KWEST News" to "KWEST News and Comment." He said he did that to feel completely kosher about his broadcasts, because he did want to add his own spin and his opinions and he felt it was a lot more honest to label it what it really was, up front. He would have been the last person on earth to present the kind of newscasts he did and try to pass them off as "Fair and Balanced" - he had WAY too much integrity for that. And he was quite the liberal - unabashed and unapologetic.

27. Well, hopefully I won't stumble over one, at least figuratively speaking.
This old "Peanuts" cartoon always sticks in my mind. It was one with Lucy spouting off about something, and then winding up looking foolish for it. And in the last frame she looks out at you and said "I'm never quite so stupid as when I'm being smart."

Assuming they really do let me back in for another round or two. As I understand it, this is a revolving-host type show. And if it works out, I'd be one of several, coming around on the guitar about once a month or so.
