This Torch Run is Unbelievable.
Avoiding protesters with fascist boot thugs.

Homeland Security is even on the torch.

In China, the official Chinese News doesn't report the protests or publish images of trouble.

In America, they bring in the troops to march the damn thing on a surprise route. Unbelievable.

by moving the route they (whoever they are) are telling the world there would be violence otherwise

12. the protesters actually stopped the bus from making progress -- if so then I undertand the changes

One should be able to celebrate the Olympics in America without protesters stopping you. Yes, protest, but don't infringe on others' freedom to express.

18. Too much hassle, too much bad press
Protesters would block the path, so TV would send images of water cannons, tear gas, body-dragging arrests. There would be violence, mostly done by cops and other security folks.

I think "the authorities" really want to get that torch from a starting point to an ending point, then get it the hell out of town. It's not a celebration this time, it's a bad show.

13. It's a shame that the IOC picked
Beijing to host this summer's games.

Given China's government's involvement with the crisis in Darfur
and Tibet it's little wonder protesters are coming out in droves,
everywhere the torch appears.

No, it's not suppose to be about politics, BUT Communist China's
attempt to show the world a tolerant and open minded profile just
isn't working- we know too much.

... And while I'm not "Fucking who care what fucking rich fucking crybaby athletes say" like most DUers, he is a jackass about this issue. Tho it stems from his support of the the Olympic athletes, he takes it way too far.

36. Changing the route is a challenge to the protesters to find it. When 1 dude finds it...
... he's gotta communicate the info to the rest of the mob somehow. At instant mass communication is SF people's forte (inventors of the flash mob and what-not).

32. City of SF probably.
Overtime for SFPD and SFSD. I'm pretty sure my friend who's a deputy w/ the SFSD is getting OT for this. The SFSD normally only works in the jails, courtroom and city hall. If they have to be called out to work on the streets they get OT because someone had to cover their normal shifts.

31. Just got in from the non-event --
I've been down at the ballpark since 11:30am and just got in -- I cannot believe what a clusterfuck this was!!

We had no idea what was going on -- there were no announcements made, we were just left in the dark. Some of the people had been there since 6:00am to see this event and they were upset and disappointed that we were getting stiffed like this. We only figured out it was not going to happen when all the cops and cop cars started moving away from the ballpark.

{b]There was NO damn reason to move the route!!!

Yes there were a lot of people, yes things got a bit heated at times between the two camps, but the police presence was heavy and I have no doubt the City could have handled the protest just fine.

This is just sooo goddamn fucked -- I cannot wait to see who pulled the plug on this, or if this was the plan from the start.

Lots of great articles in the Knowledge Bank.
Start with these two.

Sport, Lies and Stasi-Files - A Golden Opportunity for the Press

I have all of Andrew's books. The IOC tried to have Lords of the Rings banned and FIFA tried to have FOUL banned.
