Racism lives
I ran across the most racist post I've seen in awhile - about Barak Obama and Rev. Wright. Take this paragraph

"The underlying theme of Black Liberation Theology — the theology subscribed to by Reverend J. Wright, who was Barack Obama’s minister and friend for over twenty years – is that blacks in America have a seething hatred of whites; and, in this regard, Obama is a typical black person. How deep is this black liberation theology hatred of the white race? If one scratches the surface, it seems endemic in the black American community. All economic and social strata are infected – or, if you prefer, programmed by it."

The whole diatribe is here.

2. Reverend Wright = "Soft Racism"
That's a term I heard someone on the radio call it...how the racists and biggots have latched onto the Reverend Wright story and masked their hatred and fears of blacks by saying they're concerned about the man's "politics". It's a strawman game that the GOOP knows well and plays like a violin on hate radio. You'd hear the sound bite endlessly, then "question" the man's patriotism without any context...just play the sound bite that puts out the fear and then follow up with the calls and rants that turn on the hate. A tried and true formula.

What's sad is how obvious this is to many...especially blacks and other minorities...and how systemic and perfected this new form of racism is.

3. Ooooh, I'm so outraged
Poor old white me! I thought black people loved me!

I think it is really important for those who want to brand Rev. Wright "racist" to remember that he, AND Obama, and many generations still alive still remember overt, violent white racism in this country. While those who call them racist would like to pretend that this is the distant past, guess what? It isn't.

This sounds like the opening paragraph from the Klan literature that some creep handed me when I was a kid. After describing black resentment (inexplicable!), the next chapter was about how THEY'RE COMIN TO GIT YA AND YER DAUGHTER TOO!

4. That's quite a load
of BS. The writer hates the reverends, cites the "always honest" Coulter, and would vote for Condoleeza Rice. Here's the best dump of all--White liberals do not publically disagree with black people – no matter how ludicrous their statements on history or reality. White conservatives, on the other hand, believe in the intrinsic equality of black Americans and therefore treat them as equals to be challenged to defend what they maintain.

Obviously the writer can't possibly understand the difference between having your feelings hurt and having your rights, choices, and opportunties limited because your skin is the "wrong" color.

7. Hes dead on regarding BLT
Edited on Fri Apr-11-08 08:26 AM by DadOf2LittleAngels
but wrong that most African Americans subscribe to it. Most 'Black' Churches tend not to be BLT churches. Sure race is going to come up now and again in those churches but most AA who attend predominantly black churches would be mortified by what Wright said..

My main problem with BLT is that is has *no* place at the pulpit! A philosophy, or political belief system maybe but not in the name of Christ..

on edit: I should qualify 'most AA who attend...' to mean of the AA's I personally know as I have no polling or scientific study to demonstrate this..
