"The children and their mothers did not know what to do with crayons."
Why teach a child to be creative (with crayons) when they'll be pawned off as a sex slave / servant to a middle aged man?

400 children taken in Mormon raid

By James Bone in New York
Wednesday April 09 2008

**snip**

Helen Pfluger, a volunteer at a local Baptist church who helped to care for the children said: "They know nothing of the outside world. They are like aliens -- or we are like aliens to them. The children and their mothers did not know what to do with crayons.

"Our food makes them sick because they are not used to processed food.

"It was like talking to people from 1870. Their clothing needs were the most difficult to fulfil. They need a dress for a four-year-old. They specified the dress should be long down to the ankles, have long arms, a loose waist, and be a solid colour in a pastel shade. I don't think there is a place in Texas you can get a dress like that."

4. The saddest thing to me was how nobody in the cult (yes, it's a cult)
was allowed to laugh. Supposedly laughter let the godliness out or some such crap.

While these children may be psychologically scarred, my guess is they are probably physically healthier than most of us.

9. Multiple teen pregnancies, beatings, lack of education don't necessarily correlate with health

10. Yes, you are correct...
My statement was more a reflection on our modern (non)nutritional habits, and probably comes across as a snarky remark about a serious situation rather than as it was intended.

11. Yeah, that line got me too.
I don't think they should force processed food on them - that's one area of our society they should be sheltered from!

12. Our food makes us sick, too.
We just don't have the immediate reaction, having been desensitized from birth.

As for the rest...

it would be good to allow these children time to develop and to grow and to find a place in our world in their own good time.
