My friend got in an argument with McCain supporters today... they really are NUTS!
My friend and I meet every Sunday for breakfast. We chat about music, politics, guitars, movies...whatever floats our boat.

It just so happens that the place we eat is right next to our local Farmer's Market. We wandered through the market after we ate and had a nice chat with the local Dems. However, two booths away was the local John McCain group of loonies.

My friend was already into his conversation when I got there, and it was already getting ugly. The first thing I did hear the McCain guy say was that one reason we were in Iraq was to stabilize the region so that we could stabilize gas prices and keep them low, as our economy depended on low fuel prices. My friend jumped on him for that and the guy then spent the next 15 minutes or so denying that is what he meant.

Did you also know that there are no Iraqis attacking US soldiers? It is the Iranians, plain and simple. I know this because the guy at the McCain booth is an Air Force Lt. Colonel (He is a doctor) and he told me.

Also:

If we leave the region then the Iranians will come into Iraq and seize the oil.

There are mass graves being uncovered all the time and some of the victims are children...but no children have been killed by Americans. He later changed that statement and said that some children have been killed but they were what we liked to call "collateral damage."

We were told that we didn't know what we were talking about because we have not been there. The Iraqis love us and don't want us to leave, and that what we did was not an invasion and we are not occupiers.

Where do I get some of that Kool-Aid?

These people are either absolutely fucking crazy, or are too stupid to see the big picture. I wouldn't think that an MD would be so ignorant and would have a little more on the ball than this guy. He even went so far as to pull out his military ID to show us -- like we really gave a fuck.

To top it all off, in typical chicken hawk piece of shit fashion, they yelled insults at us as we walked away.

2. Next time....
...ask them to step outside so they can discuss it like real men. Then watch them back off and curl into a fetal ball.

Works like a charm.

4. You need only say ONE thing to a McCain supporter to end the argument.

"At least I don't plaster on the makeup like a trollop, you c*nt!"

Book: McCain temper boiled over in '92 tirade, called wife a 'cunt'

<snip>

hree reporters from Arizona, on the condition of anonymity, also let me in on another incident involving McCain's intemperateness. In his 1992 Senate bid, McCain was joined on the campaign trail by his wife, Cindy, as well as campaign aide Doug Cole and consultant Wes Gullett. At one point, Cindy playfully twirled McCain's hair and said, "You're getting a little thin up there." McCain's face reddened, and he responded, "At least I don't plaster on the makeup like a trollop, you cunt." McCain's excuse was that it had been a long day. If elected president of the United States, McCain would have many long days.

Or, as another DUer suggested, just say, "The only difference between Bush and McCain, is that McCain served honorably."

Although I think it lacks a certain "oomph," and assumes that the person is reasonable enough to at least know Bush is an evil moronic fuck-up.

5. I prefer the question I saw here the other day:
"Why McCain now and not 2000?" It's a good question--why wasn't he presidential material then but magically is now?

8. I've seen about ten times as many Ron Paul bumper stickers in the past 6 months as McCain stickers.
But most Paultards put their stickers on traffic light poles, because they're too lame to have their own car to put a sticker on.

17. I haven't talked to any either.
I know of none in my family that like him. I certainly don't recall any neighbors that like the bastard. Even one older couple who in 04' had no less than 30 Bush/Cheney signs in their yard can't stand him. This is East Tn. as well:)

What i hear is they don't like any of the candidates. Most feel we are voting for a good cop/bad cop scenario. And i tend to agree at this point. I was very hopeful with Kucinich:(

18. That's what we said!!
This guy we were arguing with is an MD -- and he has drank a whole lot of Kool-Aid!

The funny thing is, he opened up the discussion talking about oil and then tried to deny that was what he meant!!

Lord help us...

Here are some links, including one to an interview earlier this week with the author of the new book 'The Real McCain': http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=3148891&mesg_id=3148891

And here's an awesome (and pretty short) article that explains why the McCain of 2000 is not the same as the McCain of 2008: http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0308/9000.html

Finally, a good YouTube explaining why McCain is such a hypocrite on troop withdrawal: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KfsMzFiZOtQ

If he's on our side, why did he crash five US Navy planes and
why did he try to blow up one of our aircraft carriers?

16. I had a very similar encounter
with some Bush supporter at Chadwicks in Georgetown a few years back. He also supossedly was a vet who was in Iraq and was now working for Raytheon. What a fuckwad the guy was. Naturally, he knew much better about the great success going on in Iraq because he'd been there. When I asked him what he did there he answered "classified!"

At then end of about 30 minutes of going back and forth with this idiot, a barback came up to me and said I was never going to get anywhere with him, so I just wrapped up the thing by telling him W.'s parents were cousins and got out of there fast.
