One does not have to be a "church goer," or to believe that every word in the Bible has come from god, or even to declare that only his "god" is the true god.

Yet, this is the term being used. Not only about Christians.

A few days ago I was listening to a part of a program on MPR, about Islam. And someone asked about Turkey, and the guest was saying how the Turkish government, formed after the fall of the Ottoman Empire, banned all expression of religion in public life, until the recent elections, when a new party of "value voters" who adhere to Islamic rules, gained power.

And, of course, in our country, "value voters" has been a code word used by Rove et al to refer to Evangelicals.

One does not have to believe in god, or to follow any religious beliefs to have "values." "Values" do not have to come from a message from god. They can come from personal convictions.

3. well, if someone asks me if I'm a values voter, I say yes.
If they assume they know what my values are, that's their problem.
