Jenna Bush dishes on her May 10 wedding
Edited on Tue Apr-15-08 08:04 PM by MarkInLA
Jenna told Vogue that she considered a White House affair, but felt it was too formal. Henry and I are far less glamorous than the White House." Citing her and Hager's love of the outdoors, she told Vogue, "It means a lot to Henry and me to be outdoors. We wanted something organic and low key."

Laura Bush had hinted during an exclusive interview with TODAY's Ann Curry in February that the wedding would not be at the executive mansion. "It will be small and private. It will be lovely and simple and just perfect," she said then.

The bride will wear embroidered organza by Oscar de la Renta.

I think she should wear fatigues and army boots to show her support for the war.

As have ever been placed under one roof.

I wouldn't be surprised if they sacrifice a family of welfare recipients as part of the nuptuals.

4. So, why isn't the wedding in the Rose Garden?
Edited on Tue Apr-15-08 08:10 PM by JulieRB
I smell a rat.

This was the Bushies' biggest chances for a splashy event that would take a LOT of attention off what's currently going on in the White House; she's now having "organic" and "low key"?

What do you all think is going on? I have a theory...

Julie

p.s. I read the article. Fourteen attendants in designer gowns is not "organic" and "low key". Two hundred guests and an embroidered organza bridal gown by Oscar de la Renta is also much more upscale than the "simple" wedding Laura Bush is claiming.

10. Hmmm.
They can't guarantee security. They have a better chance in Texas of having an uninterrupted event when they can seal the place off to traffic in a 50-mile radius.

IMHO, YMMV.

At the friggin White House?

Try again.

Oh, and by the way, I think anyone who would try to protest or interrupt a wedding is absolutely contemptible. This poor girl didn't pick her parents. And yes, she apparently drank a lot in college. So did I. So did most of us. Leave the kid alone and let her have a day.

33. Let's put it this way, Big Daddy
While I agree that interrupting a wedding is contemptible, every event at the White House lately has been greeted with loud and massive numbers of protesters. Do you believe this would not be?

They have the capability of sealing off "Prairie Ranch" for a fifty-mile radius. They don't have that capability in Washington, DC.

While Jenna Bush didn't pick her parents, the spin coming out of these preparations should turn anyone's stomach.

35. They probably remember when Julie Nixon's wedding was disrupted..
she was married in the Rose Garden and there were lots very loud protesters out in the street.

I agree with Julie. Easier to contain what happens in Crawford as opposed to D.C.

36. I think they're grooming Jenna for something..
she's gone from wildchild party girl to demure authoress in a matter of a couple of years. She's marrying into a political family. She apparently, like Daddy, isn't the sharpest tool in the shed, so needs to be guided along. Unlike her sister, Barbara Jr. apparently is marginally intelligent and has a life of her own.

I'm sure we'll see Ms. Jenna Bush Hager in future public life...:scared:

Gee, my daughter got married surrounded by redwood trees in a beautiful local park, with a bbq after. And we all recycled! Now, that's organic.

25. Anyone remember how elegant Trisha Nixon looked in her Rose Garden wedding?
I despised her father, but that was her day -- she looked absolutely lovely, and Tricky Dick looked just like a dad.

Who knows why Miss Bush doesn't want to be there -- but it is her day.

When said she wanted an "outdoor" wedding, I immediately thought of the Rose Garden. That would have been my first choice, but to each their own.

There hasn't been a state dinner at the WH in recent memory.

What is she talking about, an "oragnic" wedding? The bride and groom in mountain-climbing gear?
