Edited on Wed Apr-16-08 08:04 AM by zbdent
The first time I heard that song was in church camp as a kid ...

and the words had in them ... "Someone's singing, Lord, Kumbaya ... someone's praying, Lord, Kumbaya ..." etc ...

So, the Repukes saying that the Dems are proposing sitting around, singing "Kumbaya" ... that means they're accusing Dems of being religious???

1. Nah...A Relic Of The 60's...
It was one of the big hits of the "hootenany" circuit of the early 60's and in the coffee houses. A lot of these folk tunes had religious themes. One of the best known was Pete Seger's "Turn Turn Turn" (no, the Byrds didn't write it). It goes back to the original right wing slime of "libruls" as being hippies, beatniks and folk music junkies.

1 To everything there is a season,

A time for every purpose under heaven:
2 A time to be born,
And a time to die;
A time to plant,
And a time to pluck what is planted;
3 A time to kill,
And a time to heal;
A time to break down,
And a time to build up;
4 A time to weep,
And a time to laugh;
A time to mourn,
And a time to dance;
5 A time to cast away stones,
And a time to gather stones;
A time to embrace,
And a time to refrain from embracing;
6 A time to gain,
And a time to lose;
A time to keep,
And a time to throw away;
7 A time to tear,
And a time to sew;
A time to keep silence,
And a time to speak;
8 A time to love,
And a time to hate;
A time of war,
And a time of peace.

5. I wear pins of all my Wisconsin sports.....Packers, Badgers
Brewers, and Matt Kenseth AND a peace symbol, when asked about them I say, "all my favorites, and this"? then I point to the peace pin, and say, "this is to get the h*ll out of Iraq!!" Lots of folks say "oh yeah". :thumbsup: :patriot:

3. Indeed- the only time/place I ever heard or sang that song was in a church
setting: Either Sunday school or church camp.
