The airmen of the 132nd Fighter Wing will launch F-16 aircraft over Iraq to attack enemy forces and search for improvised explosive devices, Lt. Col. James Freese, the wing's executive officer, said. Most of the airmen, based at the Des Moines airport, will leave within about a week. Some have already arrived in the Gulf region.
The Iowans will spend about two months in the Gulf, much shorter than missions performed by Army National Guard soldiers, who have served 15-month deployments. If this is winning, I sure as hell hate to think of what losing would look like.
Maybe gearing up for an increase in activity, say a couple hundred km to the east.
