NAFTA was not and is not the first and only trade agreement the US
has but it is taking a political hit from the Hillary haters. People need to learn the difference between NAFTA and other "free trade agreements" (which incidently have existed since 1948) and OUTSOURCING. May when they are finished slinging mud and hate they can settle down and do a little research and gain a little knowledge.

1. Free trade as an entire policy needs to be re-examined. It neglects labor/environment.
I favor something akin to fair trade, not free trade. Free trade for too many simply means impoverishment so that a relative few realize gains.

3. The rust belt was called the rust belt long before NAFTA
I was seeing lots of empty formerly industrial buildings in the early 1980's.

We need to investigate why free trade has been so disastrous for the US, but so successful in Europe.

7. yes
I think you've hit the nail on the head; at issue is a government's relationship with its citizens, and not just free trade. Here, people rail against free trade, but never give any examples of countries that are doing well without free trade.

5. NAFTA is not a free trade agreement.
Just like CAFTA, GATT, and all the others are not free trade agreements. They're nothing more than investment/outsourcing scams designed to enrich a few corporate CEOs and their wealthy investors. David Ricardo's free trade theory has been bastardized by the corporate elite and their bought and paid for politicians.
