Today, I walked into my near by Lowe's which just opened and stumbled upon their "Grand Opening", they have been open for a month or so. As I walked in I was handed a coupon for $10 off of a $25 purchase, great, I thought. Then a lady walked up to me with a gift card blank and said that she was from Habitat for Humanity and that Lowe's would be giving them the value of the gift cards that were bought today. What the plan was, you buy what you were going to buy, and then buy a gift card in that amount, and HH gets what you spent. Cool! You could even buy a gift card and send it to other people to use later, or later for yourself. It was the amount on the gift cards sold today that mattered.
Later I stopped by their booth and asked why it wasn't publicized on the net? There should have been emails shooting out all over the place to get people to come to that store, and it should have been posted on every forum around. They said that that was a good idea and that they'd talk to headquarters about it.
It seems that Lowe's offers this to local HH whenever there is a Grand Opening, so at least these people are trying to give back a little.
