Hot Surfer Babes
Edited on Fri Apr-18-08 11:04 AM by SoCalDem
Seventy years ago, this was the prototypical athletic young woman.. Notice the lack of silicone..the lack of pretentious sexiness..

A surfer-girl back then had to have some real strength to manage those big boards..

We have not "evolved" all that much, as a species in only 70 years..

I'm betting that these young women did not starve themselves to fit into a "skinny Minnie" outfit.. I'd also bet that they had no lack of male attention..

"'All a-board'" at Waikiki for a surf ride!

"Sun-baked mermaids at Honolulu's celebrated beach line up their surfboards just before a swift dash on the crest of a curling wave."

8. Surf boards needed to be that long before fiberglass and other materials.

When boards were wood they needed that length (for buoyancy?)

9. My friend almost lost his ear, when a big ole wooden board hit him in the head
Edited on Fri Apr-18-08 11:19 AM by SoCalDem
we were told to stay underwater until we heard or saw the board hit the water when we wiped out.. Dave surfaced too early and WHACK..the damned board hit him on the side of his head.. No way would we have EVER worn a board tether to our ankle back then :) The goal was to GET OUTTA the way..& try not to drown while you waited:)

4. Girls are led to starve themselves these days
Models are often too skinny to be alive. And that's considered "sexy". Teenagers then see this and try to reach a goal that is unhealthy for them physically and psychologically.

10. Magazines & tv are responsible for a lot of the body image issues girls have..
and seeing moms who are always on a diet:puke:

My friend's FOUR year old granddaughter asked her if she thought she was FAT?

5. Those are athletes
and athletes look the way they do as a result of doing what they do not the other way around-only doing things in order to look a certain way.

Athletic chicks are always hotter.

16. they left them in beach shacks.. the boards all had names on them
Edited on Fri Apr-18-08 02:57 PM by SoCalDem
and back then people probably did not steal stuff like they do now.. Many surf beaches had people actually living on the beach in huts.. like in the movies..

beach resorts were not all THAT in the 30's..

you'd need a tugboat to tow-out that beast!! On a serious note, not only are those surfer chicks smokin, but those mahog boards are beautiful!

15. I agree- also, the old Hollywood starlets & pin-up models were not rail thin either.
I think they look better than most of the examples of media beauty offered today...
