9. Probably both
I don't know how we are going to be able to continue. And nothing promising coming in the way of fuel efficient transportation. NOTHING!

They've only been around 150 years.

Maybe you're not hip to them yet.

31. I'm gonna make a wild ass guess and say that applies to 10% of the populace
So if demand instantly shrunk 10% at least the oil companies would get a little nervous

33. Overall disability rate in the US is 19.4 percent
source: US Census Bureau, Population Profile of the United States http://www.census.gov/population/www/pop-profile/disabil.html

Couple that with the numbers of people who work more than 20 mile from home I think it effects more than 10% of the populace.

Next think about the people you work with, do they enjoy you coming into the office all sweaty from the ride? How about weather? much of the country the weather is not conducive to riding bicycles daily for a large portion of the year. Rain Snow, Ice.

If you want to live in a bicycle society, move to China where your commute may be less than a mile and everyone else on the street is on a bicycle too.

34. Your accusation of sweat indicates an ignorance about the subject.
Bicycles are incredibly efficient. They can be propelled without too much exertion. If I feel like getting a workout and working up a sweat I can do that. But if I'm just going to work I can do it without any heavy breathing or sweat. (Except for a couple weeks in August when I'll concede that it is too hot to bike to work and not sweat)

I was merely pointing out that options are available, but apparently there's not enough knowledge about these options, which is why I keep making tiresome posts about them.

36. In Cleveland it is too cold and too much snow 5 months or more
And I wouldn't be caught on the road on two wheels with the idiot drivers in this area.

Bicycles are just not an option for everyone.

17. Some of them might actually be invested in oil stocks and utilities
I can remember showing up for a day of work at the home of one of Marin's mega-rich.

The household was absolutely jubilant every time oil went up a notch.
