Bush picks former pest-control exec as new Housing Head
Bush names former pest-control exec as housing secretary
By Kevin G. Hall | McClatchy Newspapers
Posted on Friday, April 18, 2008

Just when we thought it couldn't get any worse.

WASHINGTON — President Bush's nomination Friday of Steve Preston to head the Department of Housing and Urban Development came under fire for the nominee's lack of housing experience amid the worst national housing downturn in memory.
Critics and some key lawmakers said that Preston, who heads the Small Business Administration, was a lawn-care and pest-control business executive before Bush put him at the SBA in 2006.
"In seeking to fill this important Cabinet post I looked for a leader with an impressive background in finance; someone who understands the important role the housing market plays in the broader economy," the president said. "I sought a reformer who would act aggressively to help Americans obtain affordable mortgages ... and be able to keep their homes."

1. the bright side
Since people are being thrown out on the street, the vacant homes will be easier to fumigate.

3. nope, I read in the CS Monitor, houses are stripped bare
by strip metal fortune hunters, they read the foreclosure notices in the papers and then they descend, the houses are picked
clean of anything valuable. It's crash and burn and the people are suffering.

2. What's with Bush and bug men?
Did he hang around places they were exterminating to get high and that's how he met them? Wasn't Ken Lay an exterminator?

5. well, Tom DeLay was, I am sure that he misses him
Tom was not one to negotiate, more like lock out the opposition, us vs them mentality maybe comes with the exterminator
mindset.

I love the goodness and kindness of our country, I don't like what Team Bush have done to use 9-11 to twist our country into a
mockery of itself.

4. Wellll there they go again. Come on we conservatives know that houses
have pests so who's the most experinced person on housing? Why the Orkin man of course. And no one better take this as anything other then conservative blundering, again. Btw I am not nor will I ever be that stupid as to be a conservative, unless I either kill off my last 3 brain cells or have a lobotomy in my future.

9. Tom Delay was a giant cockroach
The real Tom Delay died years ago when spraying a basement. A cockroach that he sprayed mutated to giant size from all the chemicals and took on Tom Delay's facial characteristics and was elected to Congress. It inspired the movie Mimic.

Another cockroach took on Steve Preston's face and we have Mimic II.

12. I was thinking how far we have come from what the founders
risked their lives for, these current critters are worried about their free lunches, let alone taking on the British King & the
British soldiers for the cause of freedom.

16. no, it's just his droll sense of humor
like everyone call the media whores, it turns out that one of the White House press corps w/o credentials who was let in the
WH after 9-11 was a male escort. Yuk, Yuk. The one to handle the housing crisis is a pest control exec., another yuk, yuk.

18. the Bush inversion principle
Edited on Fri Apr-18-08 09:16 PM by MissWaverly
I looked for the most experienced but hired the least experienced, I wanted Cleaner Air, but it ended up worse than when I started,
I went to Iraq to liberate the Iraqi people and save US from WMDs, there were no WMDs, it was all a mistake and now its a debacle,
(that means disaster for folks w/o time to look it up). It's not polite to use plain English in an election year.

20. well, he may be on the short list for presidential pardons
except he has not been tried yet, I thought he was indicted in Texas in 2005, oh well, well, I don't think he can be pardoned
before a verdict but nothing would surprise me from the Bush WH. Let's see we had an agent outed, lost a major American
City, had the Vice President shoot someone in the face thinking he (the lawyer friend) was a bird, invaded a country by mistake
and never did locate Osama Bin Forgotten.
