Pope addresses U.N., doesn't mention Iraq war
http://www.wzzm13.com/news/news_article.aspx?storyid=90854

NEW YORK - Addressing the United Nations for the first time as pope, Benedict XVI on Friday invoked a doctrine supported by advocates of international intervention to protect human rights - "the responsibility to protect" - but did not mention war in Iraq or Afghanistan or the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Nations have "the primary duty" to protect their citizens' human rights," the pope told the General Assembly. If they do not, he said, "the international community must intervene" under terms set by the U.N. charter and international law.

Matthew Brunson, a church historian and Benedict biographer, said he was not surprised by Benedict's decision not to mention specific nations, wars or crises: "It was a deliberate choice not to get bogged down in current events. ... He is not focused on the specific problems of the day, but on the deeper ramifications of what caused them, and on the solutions."

2. Not focused on our Pro-Death culture.
To do that he'd have to mention what a failure "Pro-Life" is and the prime example of its hypocrisy, the Invasion and Occupation of Iraq.

5. How many Catholics do you know?
I know plenty. And I'd say a significant minority of them do EXACTLY whatever the Pope says. It's a significant minority, because everything political in this country is so diced-up that it takes much less to change the course of events than it used to.

4. And if you think Pro-Death is a bit of an exaggeration . . .
just wait until you get up to the end of your own life and learn about the common uses of "palliative" drugs then. And WHO will be making those decisions of millions of demented elderly? Ohhhh, just a generation that was raised on Death as entertainment and as an expression of "Patriotism".

Yes, some palliative drug use is actually for pain, but I gaurantee you, depending upon the state of the family around the elderly dying, some of it is NOT.

P.S. BTW, I was surprised by how BHO alluded to this situation in his answer to a question about Death with Dignity at the Compassion Forum last week. Even referring to how the use of palliatives can knock a few to several weeks off of someone's life. Now, THERE'S an issue the Pope ought to get behind, instead of trying to rescue the Catholi Church's investment in Bush.
