I've just spent the past day arguing that the people killed on 9/11 weren't really ALL collectively responsible for the misery of the nations from whom the terrorists sprung to kill them.

You know...arguing for the innocence of babies and children on planes. And waiters at the Top of the World restaurant. And, yes, even young people who were going to work in the financial trade business for a few short years before quitting to become teachers. And firefighters. They weren't really all the moral equivalent of some good German architect who sat at his drawing table in 1939 drawing up blueprints for gas chambers. Really.
