He is one guy who is old enough to not care what other people think and is willing to take huge risks in the name of peace. We all should be glad that he is willing to take the heat and do the hard -- even detestable -- things that GW Bush cannot or is unwilling to do:

Former President Jimmy Carter on Monday said Hamas is prepared to accept the right of Israel to "live as a neighbor next door in peace".

His comments came after he met last week with the top Hamas leaders in Syria.

Carter also said Hamas won't undermine Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas' efforts to reach a peace deal with Israel. He said Hamas is ready to accept a Palestinian state made of the West Bank and Gaza.

The interesting point he made on NPR this morning was that
Israel and the United States, for all of their denials, are
already talking to Hamas, the terrorists with whom we
"will not talk". And it's an open secret that we're doing it.

He also stated, a little obliquely, that the Bush Administration
was lying when it stated publicly that they had "pleaded with
him not to talk to Hamas". He stated that, before his trip, he
had a twnety minute phone call with Condi and/or her deputy and
no request to stave off the trip ever came up.

2. Are we talking about the same Hamas

That once elected in palestine started attacking Israel and said their goal was to DESTROY Israel.
Sorry I don't much like Carter dealing with a group of people who want me and all my relatives DEAD.
