Who would be in your DREAM CABINET?
Edited on Mon Apr-21-08 12:08 PM by Dr_eldritch
I've been thinking on this, and I have a few great Ideas myself (or so I tell myself).

I'm curious what fellow DUers think about what a Clinton or Obama cabinet should look like, but I'd like to hear your preferences. Who would be the best people for the best positions? Would you eliminate any old or create any new cabinet positions?

Here are the current cabinet positions;

Secretary of State

Secretary of the Treasury

Secretary of Defense

Attorney General

Secretary of the Interior

Secretary of Agriculture

Secretary of Commerce

Secretary of Labor

Secretary of Health and Human Services

Secretary of Housing and Urban Development

Secretary of Transportation

Secretary of Energy

Secretary of Education

Secretary of Veterans

Secretary of Homeland Security

So Whether you're an Obama or Clinton person, who would you put where?

Oh, and since this is something that both camps find they can agree on, K+R and keep the sniping to a minimum.

(oe)- More interested in DUer's picks, not speculation on who Obama or Clinton might pick... but speculation is fine too. :D

1. There are two scenarios. One, accounting for politics, the other not accounting

Different lists if you are going to pluck people from the House, Senate and Governor's offices without regards to what happens to their seats or chairs.

2. Here's a wacky idea
Edited on Mon Apr-21-08 12:01 PM by wryter2000
John Dean for Attorney General. Or, maybe Jonathan Turley. We need a kick-ass Attorney General who won't let the crooks off the hook.

Not so wacky. Howard Dean for Health and Human Services.

3. Seems like a pretty significant demotion for Howard Dean
I think he's doing a great job at the DNC.

It'd be a mistake to replace hime with anyone who isn't stellar.

22. Dean actually had a lot to do with electing the next President.
Maybe not directly, but there's no doubt that Obama's campaign was built on Dr. Dean's foundation.

Grassroots organizing. Small donations. 50 state strategy. A message that emphasizes that the power to change comes NOT from the top down, but from the people.

Obama is a very different candidate from Howard, but he certainly learned from what the Deaniacs accomplished.

9. John Kerry for AG
If you want to know why, Google BCCI.

An alternative would be Eliot Spitzer. I don't care how he squanders his own money as long as he goes after financial scammers, especially the RNC movers and shakers who have turned that political party into an interstate racketeering organization.

16. This is fun
I wish I was informed enough to know who to pick.

Secretary of State - Joe Biden

Secretary of the Treasury - Paul Krugman

Secretary of Defense - Anyone who wants to take terrorism seriously, and who doesn't use it as an excuse to justify PNAC wars that distract us from terrorism.

Attorney General - John Dean, as someone said earlier. He was a GOP but seems disgusted by corruption.

Secretary of the Interior

Secretary of Agriculture - Anyone interested in creating an African green revolution, biotechnology and hydroponic farming

Secretary of Commerce - Ralph Nader

Secretary of Labor - John Edwards

Secretary of Health and Human Services - Marcia Angell

Secretary of Housing and Urban Development

Secretary of Transportation

Secretary of Energy - Al Gore

Secretary of Education

Secretary of Veterans

Secretary of Homeland Security - Michael Scheuer

27. Can the president appoint a non-US citizen? I really don't think so.
Nonetheless, great choices... I just don't think I'd put them in the same places.

Shinseki is perfect... we have many people that would be more than qualified there. I'm of the opinion that we should definitely appoint a soldier to DefSec.

Kerry would be a great AG.

Boxer? I don't know. I might go with Sec/Interior.

I couldn't figure out where to put RFK Jr. -- he's a hyphenate, can do so many things.

Barbara would dedicate herself to veterans. She never does anything less than 150% and our vets have been so disrespected for so long.

Edited on Mon Apr-21-08 04:04 PM by KamaAina
His birthplace is shown as Los Angeles. I know he's working in the UK, but I figured he'd had to go the expat route because the M$M here won't touch him.

Besides, I don't think she was really serious about Palast ("just to poke them in the eye" or something like that).

31. The SecDef must not have served in the military for ten years
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Secretary_of_Defense

The Secretary is appointed by the President by and with the approval of the Senate, and is a member of the Cabinet. By statute the secretary must be a civilian who has not served in the active component of the armed forces for at least 10 years

Wouldn't you know, Wes Clark has only been out for eight years. Maybe for Pres. Obama's second term?

29. Eliminate Homeland Security, for starters.
and tear down the wall.

John Edwards for HHS, since health care is his current passion.
Al Gore for Interior, as that's where land use and conservation decisions are made.
Wes Clark for Defense-- military background.
Bill Richardson for State-- he's the one with diplomatic experience.
Jonathan Turley for AG, as previously suggested.

and, in the interest of streamlining, combine several of the other departments and give them to Dennis Kucinich.
