Blackwater sets sights on indoor facility in Otay Mesa

Blackwater Worldwide is planning to open an indoor training facility in Otay Mesa after abandoning a controversial proposal to build a training center for law enforcement and the military on an East County chicken ranch.

Brian Bonfiglio, a Blackwater vice president, confirmed the facility will operate out of a 61,600-square-foot building on Siempre Viva Road, just south of Brown Field. Further details about the company's plans are expected later.

Kelly Broughton, director of the city of San Diego's development services department, said Blackwater applied for a permit in February to make improvements to the building. The permit was approved March 19.

Broughton said the building was already permitted for use as a vocational trade school, and Blackwater's training activities would fall within that category.

2. Figures.
In California's 50th Congressional district (California's 50th, you're Dead To Me!)

...in the land of Duke Cunningham, the GOP war-profiteer, lobbyist whore, Blackwater is able to expand.

The GOP will not stop until they're destroyed the entire military.

I hope these people who approved of this will remember what they've done.

If not them, I hope their children do.

Send Mike Malloy, Randi Rhodes and Alex Jones the information. All of them will bring it up on their show.

Everybody wants to crush BlackWater...like a roach!

4. It puts knots in my stomach that there is a private, for-profit
army in this country. An army that keeps getting stronger and stronger and ever more powerful.

They work for foreign powers, and have no allegiance to this country or have to follow the Geneva Code, or any code, I'm aware of. Yet they are well-connected and receive millions of tax dollars. They are approved to be near our military installations, mingle and work amongst them along with our tax-funded law enforcement. From what I can tell, there is little to no accountability. Their arrogance during a Congressional hearing proved that.

From the beginning days of DU, we discussed at great length the concerns over the powerfully slimy Wackenhut. I never thought in a million years, another company would scare me more than them.

I don't think it should be lawful for a private, for-profit military to operate in this country, let alone receive tax dollars, practically co-exist with our own military and law enforcement. It's just too easy to circumvent human rights, and the U.S. Constitution - and maybe that is one reason why the neo-cons like them.

6. The Constitution grants to Congress the right to regulate the milita.
Congress can limit or put an end to Blackwater's activities. It would take a little will, a little backbone, a little push from voters.

8. "vocational trade school"
that term makes me think of being a mechanic or a machinist or becoming a nurse, not...learning how to kill people for the highest price.
