I turned 60 today ....I'm sad/ Beyond Bitter
Received my IRA statement today. Bernake/Bear Sterns got it all. I was out today applying for $8 an hour jobs. I can't describe the feeling, but it's like when someone punches you hard in the stomach. Even the booze doesn't help.

2. I want to wish you a Happy Birthday anyway --
and tell you I'm so sorry about your IRA.

We'll start to turn things around in just a few more months. Hang in there!

I will be 61 this summer.
Have zero retirement (long story) and make a few hundred a month selling stuff on eBay and doing odd jobs. Have no health insurance other than the VA. It's been a fucking rough 7 years!

8. I'm close to your vintage and imagine that they'll eventually
manage to steal everything my dad left me. I can no longer work, but I know how to be poor, done it all my life.

Your scratcher graphic was all too appropriate for most of us, and now they even want to rip our Social Security off.

Damn them all to a hell I don't believe in, just damn them.

Bear Stearns was taken over and didn't belly up. What do you mean that your IRA is gone?? I don't understand.

Did you work for Bear Stearns?

11. happy bidet. two more to retirement, or 5
unless you pulled the pin early? the good thing about investment money is none of it's real unless you liquidate. i know folks who lost tens of thousands in their 401K a few years ago, then the market went up and they got it all back, and more. then the market took swing back down and they lost it again.

btw, i am thousands ahead on the california lottery. i don't play.

We got killed in the Clinton/Bush economy.

Maybe we can share an apartment?

13. To all you 60-year-olds.
It's going to get better. Dems are going to turn things around - probably within four years.

Be of good cheer - and remember SIXTY IS THE NEW FORTY!

16. Ah - but you're comparing it to YOU'RE 40!
Compared to our parent's 60's or 40's there's no comparison, generally.

Shoot, I learned to ski, got married, moved twice and started a business in my forties!

My mother, an estimable woman by any measure never did any of those things, except to marry.

now I'm living in BushWorld during my 60s. My 90-year-old mother was living in CarterWorld when she turned 60.

21. Beer and Apple computers
I simply cannot resist those two......that's why I'm broke all the time. During hard times I've learned to enjoy cheap beer and used Apples.

Hey, my mother actually used one of my ole' Apples for a few months back in the 1990s. The arthritis in her hands forced her to finally give up that experiment. Now, she calls me to look up web pages and print out articles to send to her two repuke brainwashed daughters.

told me I lost $15,000. I haven't opened a statement since then. I don't want to know how little I have left.

23. Subject: Happy Birthday anyway

I'm not too far behind you and was forced out of my job after 36 years when they said I was medically unfit to work, but I do not fit the SS disability standards. There are no "reasonable accommodations" in my company as all jobs are based on seniority and with the booming economy a lot of workers are laid off and would have to be recalled before I could get an office position. I'll have to look for a burger flippin job or maybe in a bulletproof cage overnight at a gas station.:dilemma:
