House GOP Candidate Spoke At Hitler Event

A congressional candidate is defending his speech to a group celebrating the anniversary of Adolf Hitler's birth, saying he appeared simply because he was asked.

Tony Zirkle, who is seeking the Republican nomination in northern Indiana's 2nd District, stood in front of a painting of Hitler, next to people wearing swastika armbands and with a swastika flag in the background for the speech to the American National Socialist Workers Party in Chicago on Sunday.

"I'll speak before any group that invites me," Zirkle said Monday. "I've spoken on an African-American radio station in Atlanta."

He compared his speech to other politicians appearing at Bob Jones University.

George W. Bush, then a candidate for president, was criticized eight years ago for speaking at the South Carolina school, which teaches students that Catholicism is a cult. Also at the time of the speech, the school banned interracial dating, a policy that has since been dropped.

2. Bob Jones is extreme, but let's be real here. They are not as bad as the Nazis were.

There is simply no parity between what Bob Jones University has done and what the 3rd Reich did. It's an insult to everybody who died in Europe at that time to say it's equivalent to speaking at Bob Jones.

The biggest insult to Nazis' victims is ignoring the roots of what allowed that regime to grow in the first place. It's to be found in abundance in the American far-right.

No, well so much for that excuse (didn't know much about them). Willing to speak before any group, lets put it to a test. Any Gay groups willing to ask him to be in their Pride Parade and speak at their after parade party? Let see if he still feels that way knowing he would be riding down main street sitting between two drag queens on the back deck of a car!

who sold a slurpee to another guy who knows a guy who sat on the same plane as someone who might have passed by a terrorist ...

is investigated to the nines and paraded around as a terrorist himself ...
