It’s one thing to blurt out something hateful on the spur of the moment -- to say “good” after hearing news of some personal tragedy striking a public figure you despise.

It’s another thing to sit down and write something celebrating such a tragedy, proofread it, and then hit the send button so that it’s posted on a public forum.

And it’s quite another thing to embrace hatred in this manner, and attack anyone who refuses to join in.

Not so long ago getting drunk on hatred was mainly the province of people who posted to sites like Free Republic or Little Green Footballs. Unfortunately, quite a few people on the left side of the political equation have apparently watched Freepers post on subjects like the death of Paul Wellstone, Rachel Corrie, and Marla Ruzicka, and, instead of being revolted, have been envious. “Kewel!” they’ve exclaimed. “We should do that!”

The tumor thread is another matter. Are we or are we not convinced that we are better people than the Tony Snows out there, or the Freepers? Because the smirking chimp has noticed that maybe we aren't, and that sucks.

...is to dismiss him.

I haven't posted threads celebrating his tumor, nor do I plan to, but he also isn't my hero for battling cancer. Assholes get cancer. Good people get cancer. Everyone in between those two extremes gets cancer.

He's a fucking asshole for calling 3000 dead Americans "a number," whether his colon is cancer-free or not.

In 25 words or less, that's my take on Tony Snow.

i agree, there's a special place waiting for tony snow, as well as, ari fleisher and scotty mcclellen.

but, does she have a point?

she may or may not. what she describes is partly the nature of internet anonymity. and, forty years ago, the nature of disagreement in discourse led to students taking hostages and occupying buildings. comparatively, wishing ill of a lying sonoffabich, seems hardly worth mentioning.

maybe our problem is that we're not angry enough. we play too nice. we're never going to end a war and fix our economy with happy emoticons. maybe the question should be, 'what exactly are we doing' with our new coarseness. does it portend a willingness not to take it anymore (whatever 'it' may be)?

a member of the hateful concervative crowd. But, I can see now that I'm a member of the hateful Liberal crowd. I'd rather not be hateful no matter how much I dislike someone or their politics. Hate can tear you up from the inside.
