Jeremiah Wright - April 25, 2008 - BILL MOYERS Journal
April 25, 2008

More than 3,000 news stories have been penned since early April about Jeremiah Wright and Barack Obama. But behind the five second loop is a man who has preached three different sermons nearly every Sunday since 1972. In his interview on BILL MOYERS JOURNAL, Reverend Wright discusses what drew him to the pulpit and the recent controversy surrounding him.

REVEREND JEREMIAH WRIGHT
Bill Moyers interviews the Reverend Jeremiah Wright in his first broadcast interview with a journalist since he became embroiled in a controversy for his remarks and his relationship with Barack Obama. Wright, who retired in early 2008 as pastor of Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, where Senator Obama is a member, has been at the center of controversy for comments he made during sermons, which surfaced in the press in March.

1. The truth is independent voters will right or wrong believe the worst about Wright and his protege
Obama.

IMO, nothing Wright or BO might say will change the perception that exists about Wright and BO.

That will cost BO millions of votes in the GE and he'll need every one in what will be a bitterly fought contest if he is the Dem candidate.

2. Taken in context, the Rev. Wright sounds like . . .
a very reasonable, very thoughtful MAN OF GOD.

And, so it is.

3. We need people like this energizing their communities and registering voters.
And the divisiveness comes from outside the community.

6. You just cannot say, "Godamn America!" and expect Americans to overlook it.
I think Reverend Wright is right on most things political and Christian. But his rhetoric is poisonous to Obama's cause. I don't think there's any way to make "Godamn America!" go away. Which means I think Wright does Obama no favors by keeping the issue on television.

9. You can expect some empathy though. Thinking people get it, I'm sure.
There will be some who cannot get past simplifications. They won't be watching Moyers!!

And, it seems God has!

10. "They say 'GOD Bless America' . . . No. GOD damn America!" - Rev. Jerimiah Wright
"I tremble for my Country when I recall that GOD is just." - Thomas Jefferson.

Is there REALLY a difference between those two quotations?

12. But a preacher can get away with saying: God cause Katrina
God caused Hurrican Katrina because they were having a Gay Pride Parade?

McCain's Pastor Hagey is skating away with saying stupid things
that are indefensive, but Pastor Wright is all wrong?
