How do you respond to the "Flag Pin" subject?
I'm not talking about known righties or freepers. How do you respond to coworkers, friends, relatives, or people you meet in the mall or grocery store when this topic is raised with respect to Barack Obama?

My flag flies on a pole where it can be seen by all, not on a lapel like it was some kind of fraternity pledge pin.

People who wear flags as clothing are disrespecting the flag. You could look it up.

41. I once saw a GOP woman wearing flag pants
I know she was GOP because she was lined up outside a bookstore to get Newt Gingrich to sign her book -- she also had on a flag pin, flag earrings, and a flag hat. I asked her if she was anti-American. She was stunned. What did I mean. I said, "Well, I don't think it's very respectful to our country to fart through the flag." She was not pleased.

Or I point out that most American flag pins are made in China. So, how is wearing one patriotic?

I also say that many others don't wear the pin and no one questions their patriotism.

7. I say it's a non-issue
I'm far more concerned about 47 million Americans that can't afford to go to the doctor.

I'm far more concerned about energy policy.

I'm far more concerned about $12billion/month being spent in Iraq.

I'm far more concerned about the erosion of the Bill of Rights.

I have better things to do w/ my time than to criticize any candidate's choice of fashion accessories.

seeing pictures of greats from the past like JFK or Eisenhower or FDR or Teddy Roosevelt wearing flag pins.

And, if that doesn't work out, I'll touch and finger their lapel pin and remark: "You know, I recall when these things and American flags were made in a factory in Ohio. Today, they're being made in Communist China"

That usually shuts them up.

Sometimes I throw in the made in china. Then the conversation always seems to turn to the hand over the heart. I usually then ask them if they knew you were supposed to have your hand over your heart during the national anthem. Most people don't. I sure didn't.

59. Although I'm a Clinton supporter, I both respect and defend Obama
For some years now, since the flag lapel thing has become almost standard uniform for any and all public servants, whenever I do enter these discussions, I attempt to shut them down as quickly as they being by citing U.S. Flag Code...

(Section 8d): "The flag should NEVER be used as wearing apparel." (This also applies to T-shirts, hats, etc.)

If one of our proud, patriotic republican friends actually took the time to read the U.S. Flag Code, he'd be incensed at his own un-Americanism-- it may not be displayed horizontally as done at football games, it may not be printed on napkins, paper plates, etc., it may nott be used for advertising in any fashion, one may not autograph the flag, and a whole host of protocols that would blow their little minds...
