"He has lost them."
A few interesting grafs from Peggy Noonan's column in today's WSJ:

(snip)In Lubbock, Texas – Lubbock Comma Texas, the heart of Texas conservatism – they dislike President Bush. He has lost them. I was there and saw it. Confusion has been followed by frustration has turned into resentment, and this is huge. Everyone knows the president's poll numbers are at historic lows, but if he is over in Lubbock, there is no place in this country that likes him. I made a speech and moved around and I was tough on him and no one – not one – defended or disagreed. I did the same in North Carolina recently, and again no defenders. I did the same in Fresno, Calif., and no defenders, not one.

He has left on-the-ground conservatives – the local right-winger, the town intellectual reading Burke and Kirk, the old Reagan committeewoman – feeling undefended, unrepresented and alone.

This will have impact down the road.(snip)

1. Pfff
Did you read the excerpt from Lincoln Chaffee's book?

Bush never won any of the elections, and never intended to do anything for that "base." His base is the top 10%, and with that support, you can simply be installed as president.

Think that isn't how it works? Wait til these people start to scream bloody murder- they'll be told to shut up and sit down, and if they don't, they'll be jailed.

Those people got suckered into thinking they mattered. Reality is a bitch.

2. Baloney.
He hasn't abandoned his conservative base - he's given them everything they always wanted.

Huge tax cuts for the rich.
Endless war.
Laissez-faire economics. (Well, one-sided laissez-faire. No regulations to burden them, but if they fail, Georgie is quick with the federal bailout.)
Identifying and attacking an internal enemy (liberals).
Abandonment and estrangement of our international allies.
And on and on.

They can't deal with the fact that conservative policies literally DESTROY the country, and so they're going to blame Bush when they should be blaming their bankrupt political philosophy.

3. Yes...interesting...
to see Peggy Noonan getting into what it feels like to live in BushCo World. To see her weeping over what he has done to their beautiful Reagan ...besmerched his memory, defiled his policies.

:eyes: And, she shows her true caracter when she blames Obama or not being patriotic enough...when her sainted Bush has turned into the devil...who doesn't stand in lines and have to drop anything in an airport bin, or listen to the children crying and the granny whose hip replacement set off the alarm.

What a piece of work she is...and typical of Republicans. :eyes:

4. Peggy Look In The Damn Mirror
People like yourself extolled this idiot back in 2000. Now you pay the price for it.
