(D)Sen. Salazar calls for a Rush Reprimand for Riot Statements
In the letter, addressed to Lee Larsen, Senior VP of the Rocky Mountain Region of Clear Channel Radio, Sen. Salazar complains about what he sees as a "clear exhortation" of rioting and violence in the streets of Denver in the wake of the Democratic National Convention.

Dear Mr. Larsen:

I was disappointed to hear the incendiary comments made this week by Rush Limbaugh, one of the voices on your station. As I read Mr. Limbaugh's comments about riots at the Democratic National Convention in Denver, they appear to me to be a clear exhoration that those riots are exactly what he wants to happen. For that kind of incendiary comment, I ask Clear Channel to reprimand Mr. Limbaugh.

It is wrong to have political partisans of any stripe suggesting that violence is somehow an acceptable outcome of our political conventions. Political commentary on our public airwaves - heard by millions of Americans every day - should speak to the great strength reflected in the peaceful exercise of democracy at the national conventions in Minneapolis, Minesota and Denver, Colorado.

Please call me if you have any questions.

Respectfully,

Ken Salazar,
United States Senator

2. I think it's a good letter.
As a Senator, he needs to show restraint. Calling for Rush to be fired might be interpreted as him using his office to intimidate the station. Just my interpretation of it.

8. Limbaugh's call for riots at the Dem Convention is an act of terrorism but he's exempt from laws.
He still hasn't been prosecuted and convicted of illegal drug possession that in Florida carries a mandatory sentence of 20 or 25 years.

It is 'wrong' to have political partisans of any stripe suggesting that violence is somehow an acceptable outcome of our political conventions.

That statement bugs me the most......... I thought he needed to state the law and say it is illegal.

Oh yeah, she only bashes our side, like the way she did with MoveOn.org.

Where is the outrage?

20. Every progressive radio station has pick up on this story

But nothing on their hourly news feeds. Don't expect CNN, ABC, CBS, Faux or NBC showing the story on your TV.

26. KO on it right now! It may take another day or two, but I bet it will get (more) traction
You've done a lot right here at DU getting this story some exposure. I saw quite a few responses of DUers who did go the FCC links to register a complaint. That's an important step.

One of his first public acts was to nominate his good friend Alberto Gonzalez for AG.

22. Yeah, he's a dino
but at least he 'wrote a strongly worded letter' He should have mentioned the FCC and
other legal recourses he could look into when writing that letter, but he didn't

Boy, that 'strongly worded letter' has worked a lot these days by our Congress!

:sarcasm:

23. Wasn't that one of Rob Riggle's rants the other night?
I've sent him several emails but all I get back are form "thanks for your comments" replies. We had high hopes when we elected him. We hope to do a lot better when Wayne Allard finally retires.

24. There's no point calling out Rush...
He feeds off outrage from the left, all the better if it's from a Democratic Senator.

If there's a law broken, by all means, go get his fat ass.

If there's no law broken, just let it sink.
