1. Beautiful!
At first I thought this year was going to suck since Ben Stein and his creationist shirts got their propaganda in the theaters.

Then I watched "John Adams". Next, I hear Bill Maher has a movie coming out and Phil Donahue has a movie coming out.

Now, word is a movie based on the work of Howard Zinn is coming.

2008 is going to be a great movie for film.

Thank you for posting.

4. That. was. fucking. AWESOME!
Thanks for turning me on to that. I had no idea.

I love the apparent format. Current actors, actresses, and other performers reading to an audience the words of some of our best activists from days gone by. Very powerful stuff.

7. Dear God, what have we done to deserve this?
This is one of the things I've learned over the years; There are two sorts of people who are not worth listening to on any subject, drunks and people who have had their eyes opened by Howard Zinn.

11. How more bluntly can I put it? Howard Zinn is just as full of shit as any rightwinger.
Just in the opposite direction.

24. Funny isn't it?
His post is EXACTLY what Zinn is trying to say, it could serve as the tag line for the movie. And yet, he feels that Zinn isn't worth listening to on any subject.

I suppose the same could be said about him.

17. Is that because what he says is so obvious?
Are you saying that you are concerned with people who didnt already know about the things Zinn has written?

Everybody has to learn sometime.

18. It's like Chomsky talking about Zinn's book, Logic of Withdrawal, in the late 60s
He says people couldn't read it, they simply couldn't understand the words as Zinn's views were so far removed from the prevailing ideologies of the time.

Lots of ways to read what he wrote as it is somewhat ambiguous.

*edit*

Ok, missed his post where he asserts Zinn is FOS. Wow.

Thom- Your opinion simply can not be back up factually.

26. I'm going to spare the snark for a change and simply ask...
...what on earth has Zinn said, written or done that's caused you to equate his views with those of drunks?

I've always seen you as a pretty reasonable guy whose posts are well informed and well sourced and who doesn't take pot shots without also listing reasons. This post is a hell of a divergence from the norm, and it surprised the hell out of me.

Not that it's your job to justify yourself to me. Anything but. But I'm not looking for justification; I'm just curious as hell about the story behind the post.

I've read a lot of Zinn, btw, and I've not had reason to call bullshit on him so far. For example, when you check his end notes, he doesn't "mistakenly misinterpret" the gist or intent of his research materials -- a despised though common trick for hacks pretending to expertise they don't have -- and he always quotes his sources accurately.

Anyway, reading through this thread and then finding your post just caught me by surprise. Hell, for all I know, everything he says is hogwash, not being an historian myself and therefore easily fooled.

The providers changed hands, and now those channels are part of larger packages ... sucks.

much to get access to those two channels.
