From a transplanted Californian I offer these few links for being prepared in case an earthquake hits your area.

Knowing what to do and being prepared comes in handy when the unexpected occurs.

Barbara Boxer has http://boxer.senate.gov/services/CAlinks/earthquake">some tips

California has a http://www.seismic.ca.gov">Seismic Safety Commission (scroll down on the left hand side, under the section called "Be Prepared")

The Los Angeles Fire Department has an online http://lafd.org/eqbook.pdf">booklet, which has lots of info to make you less jittery the next time there is an earthquake. The kits are also good to have on hand in case of any emergency.

1. Have a weeks worth of food water medicine for all.

And a kit in your car in case you are more than walking distance away from your home, or if your home gets trashed and you can't get to your supplies.

3 days is recommended but have a week because being on your own for that long is not uncommon.

And a good pair of shoes.
