So I'm at a party in a McMansion in Scripps Ranch
Okay calling it a McMansion is bit much...let's just say it's a really nice house in a gated community. I had a chance to talk politics with a few people, and nobody likes Bush. Okay, that really doesn't cover it; some of the expletives used to describe this administration would curl a sailor's hair. One old guy really surprised me when he suggested one the first things the next president needs to do is invoke emergency powers and nationalize the oil companies. But that didn't surprise me nearly as much as everyone else in the group agreeing with him.

If the retirees in North San Diego county are thinking like that, maybe there is hope after all.

2. Retirees got one of the skimpiest COLAs in history
and one that didn't even cover the increased costs of Medicare. They're getting hammered by gas prices and food prices and they have a rough idea who to blame.

I expect the COLA this year to be extremely generous, though, two years'
worth in one rise, just to mellow the seniors out and maybe get them thinking about more tax cuts from McSenile.

Whether or not it works is anyone's guess. It sure as hell won't work on me. The GOP invariably makes a complete mess of the economy when they get control of it for too many years. We'll be lucky to avoid a full blown depression, and I think most seniors realize this.

3. Isn't that what Salvadore Allende attempted to do in an earlier 9/!!?
The CIA would have none of it and the first (to my recollection), freely elected socialist leader in Chile was killed by the US for trying the same thing.

4. I recommended this thread...
...because of this phrase:
"some of the expletives used to describe this administration would curl a sailor's hair."

Well done.

6. "...invoke emergency powers and nationalize the oil companies" . . .
Nationalizing the oil companies should be on everone's tongue ---

and we should make sure that the candidates are answering this question ---

and that corporate-media is asking it ---!!!

PLUS, a windfall profits tax on this industry ---

8. I used to live in Poway - Scripps Ranch is a TINDER BOX.
I can't believe anyone would buy a house in the middle of a parched eucalyptus forest!

(sorry, off-topic)

11. Even people who live in McMansions aren't high enough on the food chain
to be oblivious to the damage wrought by this maladministration.

12. McMansion owners are often the most vulnerable
since many have extended their budgets to try to live that lifestyle.

13. High gas and grocery prices, plummeting property values, declining 401k's.
I've notice there is a large group of people that simply didn't give a sh*t one year ago suddenly "get it".

Fear of loss has a way of focusing your attention. The formerly fat, dumb and happy have suddenly noticed they are effectively bankrupt. They are outraged, outraged I tell you.
