So bush says the high price of oil is because we are not doing any drilling here
This is at a press conference he is giving. NOT ONE REPORTER HAS ASKED THE son-of-a-bitch if his illegal invasion of Iraq, and destabilization of the middle east might have something to do with it?

1. Not to mention the fact that what we could potentially gain by drilling
in ANWR would be so minimal as to make no difference to global supply.

8. That is true, plus the cost of drilling in ANWR could not be justified
I have heard because of its accessability, it would take at least seven years before results from ANWR could be received, and in the meantime, the money wasted, er spent there could be used for better use, including alternative energies

11. Good points! Good night, the only way we're going to really end
dependence on oil is to DO IT. It's not as though the technology doesn't exist; it's that the oil companies are making too much money and there are too many politicians in cahoots with them to stop.

2. that is the entire story of U.S. politics and the press in a nutshell....
Edited on Tue Apr-29-08 10:18 AM by mike_c
The press will micro-parse comments someone's pastor once made, but war crimes and rape of the economy aren't of much interest. Of course, the Miley Cyrus "issue" pretty much dominates the news anyway....

3. heard he said environmentalists have blocked more refineries
Why couldn't the oil companies just reopen the independent refineries they bought up and closed in the early '90s?

4. He gives me a headache
The sad thing is, while working at the polls, I overheard people (Republicans) talking about this very thing. Oh that and we don't have enough refineries in America to handle the oil :eyes:.

7. I doubt anybody will mention the purpose
of the Strategic Oil Reserve to that man. Nobody will have the guts to tell him HE is the main reason prices are so far above the $70 his stupid economic policies already caused.

10. They did, but he essentially told them to F-off. In fact he was pretty rude
to the press corp. They didn't seem to mind though

See MSNBC for an old report on how ANWR drilling would affect the price of oil.

18. Would you trust him to drill for oil?
The man has a proven track record of not finding oil. Who in their right mind would trust him to drill for more?

19. If Bush were a man at all ..
...and if he cared anything about the American people, he'd dump a few million barrels of oil from the strategic reserves onto the open market and onto the heads of these damn speculators, and watch them drown in it. But (1) Bush is no man and (2) he cares only for the Oil companies.

Didn't a president in recent history dump some oil on speculators ?
