I have a broken tooth
I can't chew solid food and must have it extracted. It is an all encompassing presence on my life right now. I have FEAR. I am lucky enough to have a sparse Dental plan and most of the cost (80%, as long as it's under $2,000 per year) deferred. General Anaesthetic alone will cost $900. They will also remove the 2 wisdom teeth (upper) i have left while i am under sedation. Tonight i had blended potatos with fancy (Manchego?) cheese for flavor. I am on a mush diet for at least the next 8 days.

This really, REALLY sucks...

:(

3. Sorry to hear that.

So many health problems are caused by poor dental health, it really should be part and parcel to any health care plan, not something separate. Sounds like you must have cracked a molar or something to need it extracted. Must be painful.

It won't help you but since you are probably obsessing about it anyway, I have an old diary to occupy your attention.

4. I'm so sorry...
I do understand. Dental issues really take over your life. When there's a problem
with your teeth, it can't be ignored. It affects everything.

I don't know how you feel about going to the dentist...are you scared about the procedure?

I'm the biggest wuss in the world when it comes to the dentist. You can't be worse than me.
However, I used the nitrous oxide, and it was wonderful. I wanted to go to the dentist every
day after that! Seriously...that stuff is amazing, and I highly encourage you to use
it if your dentist has it.

I'm sorry about the mush diet. Have you thought about doing something nice for yourself, while
you endure this? How about going to the grocery store and finding things that you like that you
can eat. What about your favorite ice cream? You might be able to find some good things that
you didn't' think of before.

Yogurt, applesauce, pudding, soups come to my mind.

You are not alone friend! So many understand how hard this is! Soon, this will all be over with--and
you will be eating your favorite foods.

Take care!

9. yup
yogurt, oatmeal, scrambled eggs, PB&J with store bought bread, blenderized food, etc.

To be honest, even with the Dental "plan" i'm likely to be in the hole over $1,000. I'd save around $300 if i did it with local anaesthesia, but the broken tooth will be a "difficult" extraction... i was told they'd have to drill it out.

I'm drinking my last beer now before antibiotics course starting in the morning.

double :(

6. are your wisdom teeth a problem?
a single extraction with a local would be way cheaper. - voice of family with no insurance whatsoever experience.

7. Oh shit.
I'm sorry. Get it taken care of though, because it can infect your whole system. Advil cuts inflamation and eases pain somewhat if your kidneys can take them. Drink lots of water.

8. Is general anesthesia required?
Will your insurance cover it? Most won't pay for a general for extractions except for very young children or in unusual circumstances.

Much good luck to you.

11. required? no
but honestly... i have Dentist FEAR. The tooth that is broken has two cracks and is broken in both places below the gumline. It would be Nightmarishly Frightful if i were awake (even without pain)...

Thank you for your well wishes...
