Is Randi Rhodes coming back to XM?
Edited on Wed Apr-30-08 11:38 AM by Bill219
I was just driving in my car and caught the tail end of a commercial on XM welcoming back Randi Rhodes to the Air America channel

Does anyone else know anything else about this as I only caught the very end of it?

1. Don't know about XM
I do know that she went to NovaM and most of the AAR affiliates have picked up her show there.

She's off most of this week to move her things back to Florida from NY.

2. Dunno, as I don't have XM.
The situation is that after the public kerfuffle, caused primarily by the PHBs at Air America demanding Randi revise her contract to give them the right to fire her and tell her what she can and can't say on the air, she quit, and was immediately hired by the Nova-M network (who also hired Mike Malloy! B-) )

My guess is that XM's progressive talk station decided to pick up Randi's XM show, just as many other progressive talk stations have.

5. While Roseanne
is barely tolerable...I don't miss Randi's nastiness (especially to people who agree with her) at all. Glad I can stream AAR. I may have to give up my xm.

6. Yes!!! She is!!

I just went to the XM site, (www.xmradio.com search for Randi Rhodes) and saw this:

Programming Announcement

XM Welcomes back Randi Rhodes!!

You asked for her to come back to XM...and XM delivered. Beginning Monday, May 5, Randi returns to XM 167 in her usual time slot of 3PM - 6PM ET.

Catch up on what you've missed out with Progressive Talk's number one host!!

*****************************

The misleading bit is that they still use the Air America logo, but channel 167 on XM is 'Progressive Talk'. They already have Ed Schultz from Jones so it is not a purely 'Air America' lineup, and not truly 'Air America Only' lineup.

Next, we need to get Stephanie Miller and Mike Malloy on XM.

12. Mike is on XM 167
But they only air 2 hours of his show. And only 2 hours of Thom Hartmann - which is also delayed by a full 8 hours so they can put Ed Schultz on live. And they aren't airing the third hour of Rachel Maddow yet either. And they have that fucking idiot Lionel on in the morning instead of Stephanie Miller.

Bottom line is that they have far too many programs crammed into one channel, and they need another one. I let my XM subscription expire because I wasn't going to pay for chopped up programs. If they can keep 5 or 6 right wing channels on the air, there's no excuse for not running a second "left" channel, especially when they already have a full weekday program lineup ready.

14. Agreed
*And they have that fucking idiot Lionel on in the morning instead of Stephanie Miller.*

I have never agreed with anything more! I am flabbergasted that they have left that obnoxious creep on the air. He is rude and silly. Who but an adolescent would have all those stupid jokes and "rim shots" like some third-rate 1950s nightclub performer?

16. Help me ~ do I have to stream for that channel
I have no idea.

Is it on the Radio?

I like Air America other than Bill Press and that other one that comes on in the middle of the night, male.

19. You can stream Randi and Mike Malloy directly from Nova M Radio
which was founded by the people who created Air America, only to see their baby abused and somewhat stunted by the investors to whom they sold the plan: http://www.novamradio.com/live/ . If you can't listen at the time of the broadcasts you can get the podcasts for $10/month or $100/year. See the "Founders Club" link. They did amazing work when Randi quit AAR, signing a contract and getting her back on dozens of stations which had been carrying her show, plus the XM system, within a very few days.

13. Well, I figured that was in the works.
I believe Malloy in on Sirius as well as XM--hopefully, that's in the works, too.

Also, Randi's picked up a few more affiliates, a couple, happily, in the Northeast. Is there ANY way that she could get back into the new york city area?

17. Well, the NY station is supposedly the AAR "flagship" station
So they theoretically should air the network's programs. But they just recently started running Ed Schultz, who is not Air America. And they had to drop Thom Hartmann in order to do that. Clearly they aren't tied down to a strict AAR schedule, despite the "flagship" designation. So if enough people demand they put Randi back on, it's possible.
