Peyote Mushrooms??
On tonight's Best Persons, KO gave a tribute to Albert Hoffman - discoverer of LSD. He said Hoffman also discovered peyote mushrooms! C'mon, Keith! You know better than that! It's peyote cactus and psilocybin mushrooms - Two of nature's more interesting bounties; Neither of which were discovered by Hoffman. Or do you know something I don't? And if so, where can I locate some?

2. I believe Ergot grain fungus was the precursor to LSD
But I could be wrong too. :)

13. No, it's a horrible death. Your entire body feels like it's on fire.
It attacks your central nervous system and burns it up.

Just curious - How do you know this? Been there, done that, came back maybe?

16. In researching LSD you come across information on ergot posioning. It's a real danger in the process
It's primarily a vasoconstrictor. But it has secondary effects upon the nervous system. It causes seizures and convulsions. Patients complain of a burning sensation all over their body. Ergot poisoning is also called St. Anthony's Fire.

14. Ergot Fugus is True
It is the Ergot fugus that was the source of LSD.
It grows on Rye Grain. Even good Rye bread, given the incentive.
Some say it's responsible for a syndrom called St. Vitus Dance in medevil times.

Peyote is a cactus, containing mescaline, a few other cactus contain
lower doses. Found at local hardware stores.

Mushrooms come in three hallucinagenic forms one of which is
Psylocybin.

All of this is info can be found on

3. He could be on to something
In a heavy skillet and over medium heat:

Toast 1/2 tsp of dried ground hot peppers
Add 1/3 cup of pulsed, roasted tomatillos
Add peyote pulp
Add psilocybin mushrooms
Add salt
Take off heat, and add smoked pork
In a large tortilla, add all the above, plus a big wad of queso
Roll into a burrito, grill between two hot skillets.

Enjoy.

Looking at the recipe, if it's too dry...add a little white wine or water.

5. or...leave out the peyote and psilocybin mushrooms....
prepare and cook all the rest of the ingredients...partake of the set-aside items while meal cooks...

AND BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE....

remove the cooking items from the stove, wrap them up nice and tight, and refrigerate them for sometime later tomorrow...

or...dump all the ingredients out on the table or floor or bathtub or wherever and turn on some music and just kind of ENJOY the show...

You're bringing me back to Moab 1996 (my first encounter with shrooms in the high desert slickrock...it was like peanut butter and chocolate...)

4. He didn't discover them
but he did synthesize the psychoactive agent from at least one of them, psilocybin, IIRC.

7. He didn't even come close to discovering
the mushrooms and the cactus. Maybe he studied them, but they were in use for centuries before he came along.

8. Dr. Hoffman collaborated with noted mycologist Roger Heim, and synthesized psilocin and psilcybin,
two active ingredients in mushrooms of the genus Psilocybe.

Dr. Roger Heim described the species from field study, did the microscopic analysis, and published the newly discovered species. His work with descriptive taxonomic essays sets the standard for mycologists.

These scientists were able to gro some of the rare species, particularly P. mexicana, and analyze the bioactive ingredients.

No, there are no "Peyote Mushrooms" nor are there any "psilocybin mushrooms" as you write.
There are Psilocybe mushrooms and psilocybian mushrooms.

11. The LSD allowed him to time-travel, and to crossbreed entirely different organisms at will!
That was some good shit he had, man!
