There was an outstanding moran on this new reality show tonight.
"Farmer Takes a Wife"

I found it trainwreck-compelling. I'll probably take another look next week.

One of the contestants (a not-so-great-looking woman) introduced herself by saying: "I would rate myself a 10 and a half. I believe in myself. It's part of being Republican. I'm a winner."

She refused to compete catching chickens, because she said it was "working-class, dirty and gross, and no respectable woman would ever do something like that."

Then later on the hayride, she busts out with, "I think the end of the world is coming and all of us, Jews, Christians, and Catholics, need to stand together because we're the same people."

She attacked the one black woman for the way "you guys" are and praised Bush several times.

The funny thing is, I think she's actually genuine. I knew a woman a lot like her (also from South Orange County, CA) who I thought was putting me on for years before I realized, no, this is ACTUALLY how she is.

Anyway, I recommend it if you enjoy that kind of thing.

1. Be careful with that "South Orange County" brush
I live in "South Orange County" and last time I checked I was a lifelong democrat, complete with humility, passion, a conscience, and compassion.

2. I lived down there too, which is how I knew this person.
I actually really like far, far south county--San Clemente's a beautiful spot.

But you have to admit that element is in your midst. My onetime friend was from Irvine and the woman on the show is from Laguna Niguel.

3. Oh, I know, I run into it all the time.
But I seem to have managed to find friends (without joining the local Democratic clubs) that are either Democrats, or liberal to progressive.

:D

I do know plenty of the other type, though.

5. Two of my lifelong best friends are natives and total freaks of the good
variety.

The resemblance between the woman on this show and the one I knew was, frankly, uncanny. It's like they went back in time, found her when she was 21, dyed her hair blonde and added three inches of implant to her femurs. They would have gotten EXACTLY THE SAME PERSON.

4. Wow, I haven't seen the show but she totally reminds me of a Bushbot friend of mine.
Cognitive dissonance nearly off the charts. Supports the war, but when her teenaged son expressed interest in joining the military, she freaked out. Her little darling is too precious for that. Loathes "illegals" but employs them as landscapers. Thinks the rich are taxed too much but wants the gubmint to fund her pet issues more.

9. Well, that was a highlight.
In the end he decided to keep her on (surprise surprise). It's all rigged up but I find it compellingly awful.

10. You lost me with the hay ride.
My very rich college roomate from western Kansas, who owned a very large inherited spread in the realm of thousands of acres didn't do hay rides. She was a farm girl and even invited me to come and help her cook for the harvest, however, private planes and landing strips were more her style, along with a fine stable of horses and range worthy trucks.

14. She had to do it for the show--it was her "1st Date" w/the farmer.
And she was freaked out about the hay.

11. There was an outstanding moran watching this new reality show tonight.
Why would you watch trash like this when there are so many more important things going on in the world that we should be using are time and energy to try and resolve.

12. I take a break from supporting International Communism once and a while to watch "COPS"....
..."Trauma," or "America's worst Car Chases."

Hey, got to get your laughs somehow. Anyway, no Cabal I know meets at 8:30 PM EVERY night.

24. It's high humor when people here accuse each other of wasting time!
(Since I'm an aspiring writer I don't consider any reading or writing or consumption of pop culture a total waste of time. Even if it's bad it's part of the world I hope to communicate with someday.)

13. Remember, all reality show contestants are actors.
They all hold SAG cards and are all aspiring actors. If this means acting like a caricature, people will do it to become famous. Omarosa anyone?

19. That's pretty broad--I don't think the people on "Elimidate"
aspired to be much of anything besides drunk and laid.

21. I mean the drawn-out contest shows like Hell's Kitchen, Beauty and the Geek, and Flavor of Love.
They're all SAG card holders. In Hell's Kitchen, even the people coming to the restaurant are actors... they get paid $50 each.

I know that the plot isn't "real," obviously.
