Haiku for the death of a planet.
I just spent about an hour reading through some of the recent threads over in the Environment/Energy forum. It's not usually like me to have a creative outburst in the face of so much depressing news, but I guess one has to cope somehow. My brain went into haiku mode and couldn't be denied. I thought I'd share these with everyone and I encourage keeping this thread going with any others you may want to contribute on other topics as well.

While the planet died,
humanity's chief concern
was more shipping lanes.

Alaska gone dark.
Dick Cheney, overheard, asked:
"How are those pipelines?"

Cute, fuzzy, white bears,
great for selling soda pop.
Extinct novelty.

Russian lake grows warm.
Is it time to speculate?
New beach front condo!

1. These are excellent!
I'm no good at haiku...

But I sure appreciate yours!

Thank you for them...

2. Is there hope?
Is there any hope
That we will finally see
What has to be done?

Yes, hope always is
A factor not to dismiss
In the greater Mind

3. My favorite haiku
The shivah visit
So sorry for your loss, now
Back to my problems.

Forty to eighty.
You must work more hours, scum!
Gray walls, gray sky, death.

Fat military
America eats children
Make money from war.

Blow nose, black tissue
Lungs clogged by rich men's wealth lust
Isn't progress great?

Wright speaks, men adore
Something to distract from hell
Industry has made.

I could do more, but then I'd probably finish by going out and buying a gun to eat.
