Looking down on the Port of Seattle
I'm on the 24th floor of a downtown Seattle highrise with a direct view of the Port. It's really amazing to see absolutely no activity there today. Thank God for unions. They're doing a great work today.

2. Is this a strike
at the Port of Seattle by ILWU to protest the Iraq invasion?
Is it getting any press?

6. That must be something to see.
My grandfather worked for the Port of Seattle for years and was a longtime union member. I wish he were alive to see this (yet at the same time, I'm sort of glad he's not alive to see what a shitty mess the country's in).

7. It is quite a sight
This and the immigration demonstration and the antiwar activity today in Seattle makes me feel like the page is finally turning on this horrible chapter of our history.

And I did intend for my user name to be 'defenestratem'(as a statement), but I goofed when I set it up.

8. I am a Longshoreman (local 13)
Its not a strike, but, it is a stop work today yes. However, we will take care of passenger ships so no one gets stranded.

9. Hi, Defenestrate.
I'm in Portland, and I just got a notice saying that the "Port of Portland will be closed today" in protest of the war.

This whole thing came as a surprise, I was not aware of any planning. I'm an exporter, so I deal with the ports on the west coast.

Good for the unions!! I'm really proud of them.
