BJ's bans employee flying Stars n' Bars from Parking in Lot
There is a fight in Jacksonville over a Confederate flag.

A BJ's store employee will not be allowed to park on store property as long as he flies the flag in the back of his pickup truck.

The BJ's Wholesale chain said the flag falls outside their guidelines for personal expression at work.

Bobby Tillett said he is just showing his pride and loyalty to the confederate flag.

The company asked Tillet to the remove the flag. He refused, so they said if he didn't remove the flag he would have to park elsewhere.

He is now parking a half-mile away and walks to work. Tillet said it is worth it.

I have mixed emotions on this one. The clown is an ahole but I also fear employers trying to ban political expression on cars.

1. "Loyalty to the Confederate flag?"
Loyalty to a symbol of treason you mean....

2. Ummm? No...
There are boundaries to all personal "behavior" at work and this kind of falls beyond that....can't blame BJ's...

3. Soooo... He is Anti-American and Pro-Confederacy.
Sounds like a true 'moran'. The 1/2 mile walk might do him good.

That said - I would prefer that his employer was not able to dictate what the employees choose to express on their vehicles.

4. The company has the right to determine what is allowed and not allowed...
on their property.

If the guy wants to be loyal to a flag that symbolizes betraying the US in order to maintain the south's slave-owing ways...well...he's an idiot.

5. Since it's viewed as a racist symbol by many
it goes a little beyond "political expression". If some of your employees are Jewish, yet another employee flies a Nazi flag from his truck, you might feel that in the interest of unity (many might not feel at all safe around such a person) it might be best if the flag weren't flying in the employee parking lot....

8. Well, they didn't fire the guy.....
they just told him that he couldn't park it on their lot.

Seems reasonable enough to me.

9. The Confederate flag is one step away from the Nazi flag, IMO
Both are symbols of genocidal regimes. I wouldn't want to see a Nazi flag outside my business, and I wouldn't want to see a Confederate flag, either.

10. Anyone that hung up on the confederacy should practice one of its biggest jobs
Say, picking cotton for a couple of years, sunup to sundown.

13. Oh,but I'm sure Ol' Bobby is convinced he would have been sitting on the verandah...
of his plantation house and not picking cotton or staring at the ass end of a mule.
It's a common delusion of the confederacy lovers.

15. I think they should let the guy keep working at BJ's.
Poor taste all around. They deserve each other.
(By taste, I meant esthetics).

14. Part of my offical policy, if I owned a business, would be to forbid the slavery flag
anywhere near the place of work. Even though this is the Pacific Northwest, we still see the slavery flag up here; my neighbor across the street has one on his truck.

Did you notice the "offical"? It is now part of the DU lexicon. Like moran, Hugh, and teh. B-)

16. Turnabout=fair play. If he owned the place, he'd regulate "personal expression" down to SKIN TONE.
Mindfucked little assholes like him only squeal about "rights"
when it's THEIR self-declared rights.

He isn't the person the Constitution exists to protect, he's the
wannabe oppressor the Constitution exist to protect us all AGAINST.

Fuck him. Fuck him in his racist little heart.
