And it's not many: 5 of 512 precincts so far.

And the lead just flipped back to Woody.

I couldn't imagine Woody getting it. Dude's nuts. He's been nuts forever. I remember rooting for Landrieu way back in 1996, and his creepy GOP bible belt ass is STILL trying.

12. Isn't this similar to what happened in Illinois a few months ago
a special run-off election for Hassert's seat...Then they'll have a election in Nov. again to correct?...

Some interesting info about this race:

"Today's special election in LA-06 is being watched with bated breath. The seat is open because Richard Baker (R) resigned from the House to take a multimillion dollar job as a lobbyist for the hedge fund industry. This Baton Rouge-based district has a PVI of R+7 so the normal procedure for elections here is that the candidates show up, the Republican wins and goes off to Washington, the Democrat sulks off licking his wounds, and it's back to business as usual. Only this time the DCCC has poured $1.2 million into the race for Democrat Don Cazayoux and the NRCC has poured a comparable amount in for Republican Woody Jenkins. Most of the ads are negative. Jenkins' ads call Cazayoux (rhymes with "tax you") a "liberal" and try to tie him to the national Democratic party so everyone is watching closely to see if the old magic still works in the deep south. A poll released yesterday put Cazayoux ahead of Jenkins 50% to 41%"....

his lead right now is from Freeper precincts (Livingston Parish). When Baton Rouge comes in, and the rest of Cazayoux's home turf (Pointe Coupee), it should be good for us.

23. Basically its going to come down to East baton Rouge
There arent enough votes elsewhere to really make a diffrence. Remember its a run off style so to WIN the seat we have to get 50%+1

32. Cazayoux's underperforming Landrieu's 2002 numbers.
In the parishes that are completely in, the spreads are less that Landrieu's in 02, minus her margin. There aren't any close post-Katrina federal elections to compare it to.

Right now he is winning 51% of the vote in EBR. He needs to do better than that to win this district.

35. Everywhere is in but Baton Rouge....
a 2000 or so pickup in Baton Rouge (121 of 324 precincts in so far from BR, with Cazayoux up by about 800) is likely--in which case Caz. will win. Not to mention that the black precincts in BR historically come in late.

well at least he is under 50%, anyone know who the other asshats are? It would actually be refreshing to think they are taking votes away from US at least (in a sense that we would get them in the runoff)

47. the 50% thing doesn't apply in this election
This is the run-off--the winner wins and is sworn in to Congress on Monday. That said, this is a special election--Cazayoux will hold the seat until Nov., when he'll have to defend it...which he should do easily.

48. But (just like in IL. w/Hasert) why is there a run-off now, then they vote
again in Nov...Why do they not just wait until Nov...I mean, I understand a special election if someone dies or suddenly resigns to health reasons, etc. & the seat needs to be filled immidiately....

Guess I'm just not familiar w/the process...

In any event, it is a GREAT win, picking up a seat in normally what is a strong Republican area..:woohoo:

make obscene money as a lobbyist. If he had filled out his term, he would have had to stay on the sidelines awhile.
