"How a Compliant Congress Empowered a Reckless President"
a new book by a moderate Republican, Lincoln Chaffe "Against the Tide"

I'm watching him on Book TV right now and wow. :wow:

Not all Republicans are assholes (thank heaven)

1. Thanks for the post and I definitely look forward to reading Chafee's book.
It is something we all certainly know, the divisions they created, the cram it down your throats and you will like it attitude. And most of all, there will be war. My god, all the damage done by these individuals and yet, yet the press is still brain dead and rolling on like nothing has happened. "Mission Accomplished".

2. Color me pessimistic, but
the differences between the two parties at a Congressional level are becoming less and less. That's why impeachment is a pipe dream. They are all in the war mess together. SCOTUS justices are about the only remaining distinct difference between the two parties.

3. All that when the newly elected President was promising
"unity"? I knew that was a lie and the Dems believed it? Hey it was a Bush. They didn't contest the stolen election at the Electoral Certification process. The Senate refused to allow the House to protest (talk officially) the election fraud in Florida. Even Gore didn't break the tie and allow a protest or his win. He was too "polite and worried about the country being divided".

People like me believed it to be a coup. I believe it even more today.

4. He used to be my Senator and is no longer a Republican.
He's now an Independent. He disaffiliated with the GOP last spring. He was the ONLY Republican Senator to vote against IWR in '02.

He was to the manor born, got a law degree and then went out to Montana for a few years to learn how to shoe horses. LOL He's a total eccentric and casting my vote for Whitehouse instead of Chafee in the mid terms was one of the most unpleasant votes I've ever cast, but it was a no brainer since a Democratic majority in Congress was the obvious priority.

I liked both Whitehouse and Chafee equally though. They are close friends with one another and so are their kids so it was an awkward scenario for everyone.

:hi:
