Man tasers 10-year old son
Thanks to rawstory, for continuing to highlight important stories that people should care about. It's a tragedy and a sign of the times. Pure power in the hands of an idiot.

The next to last sentence in the original article says "The boy is expected to recover from his injuries."

I would say "No he isn't." Isn't that a superficial reading on the situation?

Well, good thing for his grandparents.

1. Is this any less tragic than another adult, with a badge, doing
this?

4. I think it is much more tragic
A parent is supposed to be your protection from the world, your trusted mentor, your role model. This is a betrayal of the first degree.
In an ideal world, police should be trustworthy as well, and your protector from the world. But the policeman didn't bring you into the world, and you didn't depend on them for 10 years for every basic necessity. We all have an archetype of 'father' embedded in our heads; the policeman doesn't carry the same weight psychologically.

I do not believe tasers should be carried by police either, however.

8. Police should just shoot people, maybe?
If you're talking about taser abuses, I'll agree with you. For some reason, there is no shortake of stories about police tasering old ladies and sleeping people.

However, if you're arguing against ALL use of tasers, I'll disagree. The police have very few non-lethal means of subduing somebody. Pepper spray frequently does not work, especially when used on drunk people or those on drugs. Aside from beating the hell out of somebody with a PR-24, the only way to stop them non-lethally is a taser.

Yes, training seems to be lacking. Yes, tasers have the rare unfortunate unintended side-effect of stopping somebody's heart.

However, since the alternatives are bludgeoning them into unconsciousness or shooting them, a taser seems a reasonable alternative.

9. Yes, tasers have the rare unfortunate unintended side-effect of stopping somebody's heart.
That may be a little of an over statement. Tasers may be contributing to cardiac arrest in some suspects. Other contributing factors where I live have been huge amounts of cocaine in the suspects system, over exertion from running from police and general poor health. There are some good posts right now in the health forum.

3. The photo of the father
reminded me of those of mass murderers--the look in his eyes is creepy. An you are right, the kid won't get over the psychological damage easily. Hope he gets professional help.

6. Let me at em, just 10 minutes...
I'd kick the crap out of him...sick fuck.

I hope the boy can get past this, my heart goes out to him.
And, the dad will get his, prisons are full of guys who where abused as kids.

Happy trails, asshole, have fun being raped and murdered in prison.

And no, I don't care one whit how he will suffer, he deserves it.

10. This father should never be allowed
to have custody of his son again. I agree w/the OP. This will remain w/the son for the rest of his life. Trust issues are very difficult to overcome.

Wonder where his mom was/is.
