1. why does it seem wrong?
if a human player died during a game, would you expect their team or sport to shut down?

9. I would want it shut down
if the sport has serious flaws in it to the point where "accidents" which wind up in the death of a player are common occurrences.

21. Not even close to
what happens on the horse racetrack. You named some physical sports but it isn't all that often that somebody dies from them. The people know the odds and choose to get involved in the particular sport of their choice. I wonder how many people would choose those sports if they knew that if they broke a bone they would be put down? Not to mention that the people go out onto the field or step into the ring with all kinds of equipment to protect them. There isn't much to protect the horses or even the jockeys for that matter.

3. I understand your hardship, but unfortunately a horse has to be destroyed.
Horses are unlike dogs or cats. They have to heal while standing.

4. I do understand that.
But I think the horse racing industry needs to make some big changes. We all know this was not an isolated incident.

7. I can never watch because of what happened. I can not bear to watch them be put down.
Happens more often than not. I only wish that more cared, but sadly they do not.

11. Yes, Barbaro was different.
They tried so hard to save him but it's almost impossible to save a horse with a broken leg let alone one with the injuries that Barbaro sustained. They thought he might have a chance since it wasn't a compound fracture. Eight Belles did suffer compound fractures on both legs. They had to do what they did. Did you hear if the other horse from the day before was euthanized?

14. Yes, a colt named Chelokee.
He was trained by Barbaro's trainer. He dislocated an ankle and was given a 50% chance of survival.

17. Sadly, to some people animals are just
property. I can't even imagine how they can feel that way. By the way, I live here in Arizona too. Something your neighbors might try is a mist system for the dog kennel. And of course the dogs should always have shade throughout the day and plenty of water which is also in the shade. A lot of people were saying that we have a dry heat, well we do until the monsoon season hits. Then it gets humid and the nights never cool down either. And never, ever leave a dog or any other living creature in a car on even what might be considered a warm day.

22. That's very small.
I would hate to think they are restricted to that small of a space for extended periods of time even if it wasn't hot out. The heat just makes it all the worse.

26. Actually you did offend me.
I have never had anybody imply that I don't care about animals before. I love dogs. I have two dogs living with me now. One is actually our son's dog. We got our dog from the pound 4 years ago. She is wonderful. To me they aren't just pets, they are family. Animals are amazing. But I forgive you because I know you are upset about the dogs next door to you. And it's getting hotter and hotter here and we are in for another long hot summer. Many dogs will die from the heat. A lot because they are left in cars and it's all so unnecessary. Oh, and this isn't about the heat but it's another potential killer of dogs and that's their collars. They should be wearing breakaway collars. For instance my two dogs play rough and grab each other by the collar. I found that thousands of dogs are strangled to death every year by their collars getting caught on another dog's jaw or on other things such as fences and crates. Most pet shops don't carry the breakaway collars. I ordered them online. I already found one of them laying in the yard which means it did it's job and released when the other dog got caught on it. They will reattach so it isn't as if you have to buy a new one each time. Do keep us posted as to what happens with your neighbor's dogs and what Animal Control does or recommends.

16. "It's a great day for the State of Kentucky" - one of the suits with a microphone in his face
This wasn't from the grandstand. It was from the celebratory stage filled with half of the residents in the owners' zip code.

The blank look of the girl with the gum was revealing.

I'll pass on the ticket offer.
