MeatOut Monday, Cinco de Mayo Edition: GUAC THIS WAY!
Hurray, my kid has made friends with a girl whose family has a HUGE AVOCADO TREE! The happy result has been giant paper bags of avocados showing up regularly here, aren't you green with envy? Avocado green natch....

If you're lucky enough to have ripe avocados today, try mashing them with fresh pressed garlic, tomatillo sauce (bottled is OK!) and a squeeze of lime, they make the perfect topping for ROASTED POTATO TACOS!

Just cut potatoes in 1 inch chunks, toss with any salad oil and your favorite chili powder, salt, cumin, and oregano, and bake (350 for 45 minutes.) I like to mix these with soy sausage (Soyrizo is my fave)or lentils, but they make awesome tacos on their own too, with green chile, salsa, lettuce and guacamole.

Great with refried beans and rice! And a Corona & lime of course, it's Cinco de Mayo!

1. Most folks around here are celebrating Cinco de Mayo
with fahitas, tamales, etc. Should have fallen on another day of the week, huh?

5. I love living in the land of avocados, though my home-grown source has dried up.
Guacamole is a favorite indulgence of mine.

6. I once drank a six pack of Ciorona with lime
I was sicker than I can ever recall the following morning. Since six beer over the course of one evening does not do that to me (except in this case), I think there was something seriously wrong with that one batch.

I've avoided Corona ever since. The rest sounds really yummy, though.

11. Oh dear!
I think six of any beer would put me six feet under....or six of any bar drink!!

There is a place here in L.A. where TWO of anything on their menu will practically have you on an IV drip, seriously, it's famous for that, it's called Tiki Ti, they only have rum drinks and they are WICKED!!!! I had two (OK, I had had wine with dinner a couple of hours before but whatever) and I had to call in sick Monday, I had the drinks on SATURDAY! I mean, face on the bathroom tile sick sick SICK!

8. When I lived in Miami, I had an avocado tree in my back yard.
There used to be some many avocadoes that they would rot on the ground. My two kids and I could eat just so many. Oh, what I wouldn't give for that tree now. In the grocery stores here in North Georgia, they are a minimum of $1 each and they are little pygmies. Those avocadoes I had from that tree in Miami were big, big, big.

9. Yeah I was visiting my hub's family in Buffalo once
What passed for avocados in their produce section! Mushy, stringy, bruised, kiwi-sized little horrors....I ended up throwing them away, I think they had been frozen unripe and then left in a hot warehouse or something! Blech!
