Baghdad Disneyland contractor: Violence in Baghdad is like ‘drive-bys’ in LA
from ThinkProgress:

Baghdad Disneyland contractor: Violence in Baghdad is like ‘drive-bys’ in LA.»

On April 24, Fox News interviewed John March, executive vice president of Ride and Show Engineering, to discuss the contractor’s plans to develop the “Baghdad Zoo and Entertainment Experience.” Host Bill Hemmer asked March whether there are safety concerns associated with the park’s development. March answered:

Well, you live here in Southern California and there’s drive-bys and everything else. So there’s danger everywhere, and I think the key thing is this will be tremendous for Baghdad.

March added that the Disneyland-style project is being “fast-tracked” by the Pentagon. Watch it: http://thinkprogress.org/2008/05/05/baghdad-amusement-park-contractor-violence-in-baghdad-is-like-drive-bys-in-la/

2. OMG the irony here is scary-funny
Anytime the Soviet Union consolidated its empire (Expansion of the USSR, Eastern Europe post WWII, Afghanistan, etc...) the first thing they erected was usually some realist art and an amusement park.

Here are some of those parks today:

Chernobyl took care of those...

And here's a bunch:

35. You know, just this morning as I was driving to work..

I said to myself, "self? there appears to be more than the average number of dead bodies on the street this morning." I thought this odd, but didn't give it much more thought.
As I pulled into 7-11 for my morning coffee I had to avoid the usual severed head, "dang, why don't they clean them up?" I pondered.
Grabbing my coffee from my weapon strewn 7-11 worker, I motored to my job, avoiding one car bomb after another. Boy those things are murder on traffic.
Pulling into my fortified, barb-wired ensconced parking garage, I was given a full body cavity search for bombs or small weapons. I got so pissed because the security guard made me spill my coffee. don't you just hate that?
So up to my cubical I trotted, noticing along the way that the staff looked a little thin. Curious, I plodded over to an office mate and jokingly quipped, "another suicide bombing?", my co-worker laughing replied, "yeah, took out half the office", we both cracked up over that and made a few comments about the slackers being so lucky getting out of work they way they did.
But given everything I have said, I consider myself lucky with a capital "L", why? because of the myriad of things that could kill, murder or otherwise blow me to smithereens, I have a nice hot cup of coffee and you know what? that's all that really matters.

8. This guy should volunteer to be the official greeter at the front gate
wearing a Mickey Mouse suit. We'll quickly find out whether Baghdad is no more dangerous than Anaheim.
