Why is Rachel Maddow doing this?
Edited on Mon May-05-08 06:04 PM by cenacle
The first hour of her show on Air America Radio is some kind of simulcast with the so-called "War Room" on MSNBC. At best her voice is heard every five or ten minutes among these corporate shills. Today, I did not hear her once. Was she even on? What is the point of this wasted hour? I tune in to hear her funny, smart, progressive observations and instead get these fucking mainstream corporate MSM whores talking about NOTHING. I missed Rachel's explanation for daily running this hour. Did anyone hear it? Does anyone find value in this hour that I am missing? I just find it really frustrating. Those bastards don't need to another hour of their vomit clogging up OUR airwaves than they already have.

*Rant off, anger remains*

1. Absolutely agree, usually the "pundits" are super spin liars, too.

2. That's how they expanded her show by an hour
She used to be 6-8P ET. Now she's 6-9P ET, though with that ridiculous MSNBC show taking up the first hour.

I've maintained that they're simulcasting the wrong MSNBC show. What listeners really want, if they had to pick a show, would be "Countdown."

3. Patience Padiwan
She's doing what she can to get her own show on T.V.

I miss her on the radio too , but I really want her
to get a show on T.V.

Hopefully the patience will pay off :patriot:

4. I think AAR made a deal with MSNBC to simulcast the first hour w/Race
because Rachel is such a frequent guest on that show. Today she wasn't
on "Race For The WH" so I would have assumed she'd have done her show
instead ... weird that AAR would have just taken the MSNBC feed without
her being on the panel.

And here's my personal rant about the simulcast: Why do they have to
leave the stupid music running throughout the entire show, under the
discussion? It's this obnoxious, power guitar music that runs through
the entire show, even when the panelists are talking -- it's especially
noticeable on the AAR simulcast feed (although now that I've noticed it
from radio, it REALLY bugs me even during the TV broadcasts now).

6. her voice is not apparent...
even when she is on...When, for example, she interviews someone on her show, she engages that person deeply, shows the research she's done, asks relevant, insightful questions. On the MSNBC show she is reduced to ten words or less, saying the same thing over and over. You can hear her "can I get more than a couple of words in?" tone of voice, high and frustrated.

If she gets a TV show, good for her, if that's what she wants. But I really believe that this hour is a bad idea, and frankly I find it painful to listen to. And today's, the one without her, was the worst one yet. They discuss nothing substantive on that show, and assume that Beltway media whores can speak freely and accurately for a nation of 300 million, most of whom do not live in DC.

It's like the mainstream media has collectively created this image of the "American people" which is inaccurate, patronizing, simplistic, and embarrassingly wrong.

8. I listen to Nova M for Randi Rhodes and
Rachel Maddow on Air America. I'm not going to stop listening to her because I disagree with this feature of her show. Despite my annoyance, I really believe she is one of the best progressive voices in any medium right now.

11. I stream Nova M from KPHX
That way i get Hartman, Randi, Jeff Farias, Mike Malloy and a re-broadcast of Rachel
all in an uninterrupted row. i even get Stephanie Miller before Hartman when I can stand all the hype and confusion.

That means I don't get Rachel until 11pm my time (CDT)

so I don't always stay awake for the whole thing

I think the thing about the simulcast (besides prep for rachel's probable future MSNBC show)

is just another boneheaded move by AAR's suicidal management. The folks who own and run that network are capitalist pigs who
are just continuing to run what was once a great idea further into the ground.

NOVA M is what AAR was supposed to be

9. I dowload the podcast every but I've stopped listening
to the first hour. If I wanted to hear Scarborough (and I had cable) I'd watch him. I want to hear Rachel. She's bucking to become a TV pundit and seems more interested in that than in her radio show.
