Anyone ever heard of a Democratic serial killer?
Not figuratively, but the literal kind of serial killer . . . . .

Ted Bundy was a Republican.

John Wayne Gacy was a Republican.

BTK was a Republican.

I can't think of any counterpart on our side of the fence.

Can anyone else?

I think Democrats are more impulse killers. It's really more a thing about consistancy and organizational skills. The Reverand Jim Jones from the Jonestown Massacre was a liberal progressive. And he literally drank the Kool-Aid!

Via Wiki:

"Jones was found dead sitting in a deck chair with a gunshot wound to the head consistent with a self-inflicted gun wound. No conclusive proof exists whether Jones had been murdered or if he had committed suicide. An autopsy of his body showed levels of the barbiturate phenobarbital which would have been lethal to humans who had not developed physiological tolerance. His drug usage (including various LSD and marijuana experimentations) was confirmed by his son, Stephan, and Jones's doctor in San Francisco."

All those drugs in his system, he probably had a natural resistance to most poisons. Whether the fatal gunshot was self inflicted or not is ultimately unknowable. That said, he seems not to have drunk the kool aid.

He did, however, get Powers Booth's career started. So it's not all bad. You see, even murderous liberals create jobs!

82. I've always wondered if Jones had a brain tumor, or some other anamoly
They should have saved his body for future research-we know so much more about the brain, now.

He started out in San Francisco helping people-feeding the poor, working to address racism, and so on. Something snapped in him before he moved the group to Guyana.

I'm not saying having a brain tumor justifies the mass murder of a thousand people, I'm just saying that there may be a biological basis to the madness that causes someone to do something so horrific.

I saw an interview with his son, whose mother ensured that he wasn't on the compound when the murders started. I felt so badly for him, he was a teen when it happened. He had the saddest eyes I've seen in a long time.

32. Others WERE killed and injured and they fully intended to kill many others.
One of the victims, who was nine at the time his home was fire-bombed, recalls:

In February 1970, my father, a New York State Supreme Court justice, was presiding over the trial of the so-called “Panther 21,” members of the Black Panther Party indicted in a plot to bomb New York landmarks and department stores. Early on the morning of February 21, as my family slept, three gasoline-filled firebombs exploded at our home on the northern tip of Manhattan, two at the front door and the third tucked neatly under the gas tank of the family car. (Today, of course, we’d call that a car bomb.) A neighbor heard the first two blasts and, with the remains of a snowman I had built a few days earlier, managed to douse the flames beneath the car. That was an act whose courage I fully appreciated only as an adult, an act that doubtless saved multiple lives that night.

I still recall, as though it were a dream, thinking that someone was lifting and dropping my bed as the explosions jolted me awake, and I remember my mother’s pulling me from the tangle of sheets and running to the kitchen where my father stood. Through the large windows overlooking the yard, all we could see was the bright glow of flames below. We didn’t leave our burning house for fear of who might be waiting outside. The same night, bombs were thrown at a police car in Manhattan and two military recruiting stations in Brooklyn. Sunlight, the next morning, revealed three sentences of blood-red graffiti on our sidewalk: FREE THE PANTHER 21; THE VIET CONG HAVE WON; KILL THE PIGS.

For the next 18 months, I went to school in an unmarked police car. My mother, a schoolteacher, had plainclothes detectives waiting in the faculty lounge all day. My brother saved a few bucks because he didn’t have to rent a limo for the senior prom: the NYPD did the driving. We all made the best of the odd new life that had been thrust upon us, but for years, the sound of a fire truck’s siren made my stomach knot and my heart race. In many ways, the enormity of the attempt to kill my entire family didn’t fully hit me until years later, when, a father myself, I was tucking my own nine-year-old John Murtagh into bed.

Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn were FOUNDING members of the Weathermen, a violent terrorist group.

10/7/69 Bombing of Haymarket Police Statue in Chicago

10/6/69 Bombing of Chicago Police cars

12/27/69 Dohrn raised three fingers in a “fork salute” to CHARLES MANSON, whom she proposed as a revolutionary inspiration. “Dig it,” said Dohrn at the time. “First they killed those pigs, then they ate dinner in the same room with them, they even shoved a fork into a victim’s stomach! Wild!”

1969 Ayers attempted to extort money from the Vietnam Moratorium Committee — demanding $20,000 to abstain from violence during a planned peace protest. After rejecting this demand, a member of the Moratorium group asked Ayers what he really wanted. “To kill all rich people,” Ayers responded. When another peace activist pointed out that Ayers himself came from wealth, he answered: “Bring the war home. Kill your parents.”

9/75 Bombing of Kennecott Corp

10/20/81 Brinks robbery in which several members of the Weather Underground stole over $1 million from a Brinks armored car near Nyack, NY. The robbers murdered 2 police officers and 1 Brinks guard. Several others were seriously wounded.

Have these now-"Democrats" repudiated these acts? Shown regret or remorse for the destruction, harm and deaths, extortion, robbery, injuries and murders?

“I don’t regret setting bombs. I feel we didn’t do enough.” -Bill Ayers, 2001

(asked if he'd do it all again) “I don’t want to discount the possibility,” -Bill Ayers, 2001.

“Guilty as hell. Free as a bird. America is a great country,” -Bill Ayers, 1991

"They weren't Democrats at the time." They are Democrats now, but are entirely unrepentant and have no regrets over these murders. They aren't MY kind of Democtrats. I would expect a Democrat to reject such hideous violence.

43. The Black Panthers weren't the Weathermen. The Weathermen
never killed anyone but themselves. You can hide the fact with a lot of verbiage, but it's still a fact.

The US government, on the other hand, killed 2 million vietnamese & 50K+ americans.

I think the weather faction was a political mistake, but they never killed anyone but themselves, in the NYC townhouse explosion.

46. They accidentally killed themselves, their INTENT, PLANS and PREPARATIONS were to murder scores
When the townhouse explosion occured, they were building bombs as "...preparations for a bombing of a U.S. military non-commissioned officers' dance at Fort Dix, New Jersey in what (Weatherman) Brian Flanagan said had been intended to be "the most horrific hit the United States government had ever suffered on its territory". "The bomb was packed with nails TO INFILICT MAXIMUM CASUALTIES".

"a political mistake"? You see the desire to blow people up with bombs as "a political mistake"? Firebombing a home at night with a sleeping child as "a political mistake"? Do you see Bush's actions a "a political mistake"?

Someone here asked if 'bombing for peace' is like 'fucking for virginity'.

If it was no more than "a political mistake", you'd think Ayers would acknowlege it as "a mistake", but he does NOT. He sates that he does NOT regret it, and he would not discount doing it again.

Unlike the US gov, which had the best of intentions, but still killed - millions.

44. I wish.
Kimberlin was sentenced to 51 years in federal prison for placing and detonating a series of eight bombs in 1978 in Speedway, Indiana. Kimberlin left a gym bag with a bomb in the parking lot of the Speedway High School, during a kids' football game. Carl Delong picked up the bag and the explosives detonated, tearing off his lower right leg and two fingers (he eventually died). Delong's wife suffered serious injury (she won a $1.6 civil suit against Kimberlin). Kimberlin served time for other offenses, including impersonating a federal officer, illegal use of the Department of Defense insignia, illegal use of the Presidential seal, receipt of explosives, and conspiracy to distribute marijuana. He is not only unrepentant for the bombings, he SUED his victim, Mrs. Delong, for violating HIS civil rights! I guess he sees blowing people up as his civil right.

A book was written about him:

Citizen K: The Deeply Weird American Journey of Brett Kimberlin
by (The New Yorker's) Mark Singer

"This book relates a journalist's worst nightmare: of getting deeply involved in a "big story" based on information from a single source who turns out to be a world-class liar."
.....

"Kimberlin turns out to be a top-flight con man."

....
"A book about a true psychopath... portraying this madman... someone that you should be afraid to meet on the street"

http://www.amazon.com/Citizen-Deeply-American-Journey-Kimberlin/dp/0679429999

The previously convicted drug dealer, perjuror, murder suspect was charged with thirty-four counts relating to bombings in Speedway, Indiana, and sentenced to 51 years in federal prison.

Counts 1 through 16- illegally possessed and manufactured firearms in connection with the bombings;
Counts 17 through 22- maliciously caused damage by means of explosives;
Counts 23 and 24- a convicted felon, possessed explosives;
Count 25- illegally transported ammunition in interstate commerce.
Counts 26 through 30- unlawfully possessed an official insignia of the Department of Defense and a Presidential seal
Counts 31 through 34- falsely impersonated a Department of Defense official.

Rove must love this guy- an unrepentant domestic terrorist bomber as president and co-founder of VelvetRevolution... oh, wait...

Kimberlin was convicted of the eight bombings, including the one set in a school during a ball game, in 1979. He made his claims about Quayle in 1988.

Mr. Kimberlin was judged liable for Mr. Delong's death and ordered to pay $1.6 million to his widow.

Though Mr. Kimberlin is now out on parole and reportedly drives a Mercedes, he hasn't paid. Nor, as Mr. Thar notes, has Mr. Kimberlin ever shown one ounce of remorse for his brutality.

I thought you regarded bombings as "a political mistake". Now his bombings aren't even "a mistake"? His only "mistake" was lying about Quayle?

63. Yeah, he's "interesting".
I think the 'unlawfully possessing an official insignia of the Department of Defense and a Presidential seal and falsely impersonating a Department of Defense official' are especially peculiar.

As I recall, he was using false documentation in order to obtain DoD license plates for his car. Why someone would want that or risk such stupid games, I cannot imagine.

As for the presidential seal, I have never found any further info on that.

Might be interesting to read Singer's book to see if an explanation of Kimberlin's explanation/excuse is offered.

Or low-down, low-profile connections?

Maybe Kimberlin himself has become a little too high-profile...he makes his associates look bad. Or maybe that's the point.

Why would one associate oneself or one's organization with such a person?

68. why indeed? moreover, where does a 14-year felon get the $
to start high-profile charities?

if you're suggesting his drug-dealing was the connection, i wouldn't think unless he controlled an organization or still had connections, after 14 years, there'd be much there. But he apparently walked out of prison into connections & $ & pictures with - Karl Rove.

No motive for his bombings. None of it makes sense.

I guess that would have to be asked of the "high-profile connections" you refer to. You might pose the question to the person who publicly calls Kimberlin his "partner".

I see nothing that says that Kimberlin put forth any money whatever to start any charities. He apparently is an employee of a 501(c)(3) and draws a salary.

67. "conviction: misuse of presidential seal"
Interesting (weird) crime, huh?

I guess the conviction didn't matter all that much as far as sentencing goes. The presidential seal and DoD ID fraud and drug convictions were sentenced to be served concurrently with the fifty-one year sentence related to the bombings.

Perhaps the additional conviction mattered when he was sent back to prison after violating his parole.

It's not every felon on speaking terms with well-placed folks in both parties.

Quayle an old family in indianapolis. I wouldn't think they'd use your run of the mill dealer.

70. Rove...
I dunno. Kimberlin's story is that he "bumped into" Rove at a store and K had charming words with Karl and Darby Rove and he asked that his picture be taken with Rove & Kimberlin's daughter.

If it'd been me, I'd have put my daughter behind me and covered her eyes and shielded her from ghastly greusome Rove. Kimberlin held her against Rove as if he were a dear uncle, and smiled. Gack.

Kimberlin took close-up pics of Rove's car in the parking lot (guess Rove didn't have Security- amazing that a convicted domestic terrorist serial-bomber can walk up and take multiple close-up photos of the vehicle). What an odd thing to do: take photos of someone's car & license plate. If I were a convicted domestic terrorist serial bomber on probation, I wouldn't do such a strange thing.

All these photos were posted (along with Kimberlin's snooping at Rove's shopping list of butter and rootbeer) on Kimberlin's website (co-founded and partnered with Brad Freidman- VelvetRevolution), with seeming glee, as if they were meaningful in some way. Personally, I think they're stupid and juvenile.

As for the Quayle bit, I don't think anybody on the face of the earth takes Kimberlin's story seriously. He has been found to be a relentless "liar", "manipulator", "a top-flight con man", "a fairly typical hustler who learned how to con long before he became a convict", "a man whose idea of the truth is utterly malleable. Kimberlin, it becomes clear, never encountered a situation that he couldn't somehow exploit for gain." The story does not pan out in any way.

73. He served 14 of 51
because of the sentencing laws in place at the time. He then was paroled, violated his parole and was returned to federal prison (twice, I think). He was most recently released in 2001.

75. sentencing laws that say you only do 1/5 your time?
out of jail early, start a charity, start a rock group, bump into rove & hook up with dem big shots.

rove is out shopping at "stores" all the time - with his small daughter! everyone is allowed just to walk up & ask for photos. funny.

some people just have all the luck.

something smells funny.

86. You left out a step....
After Kimberlin was released from federal prison (the first time, before he violated parole -pleading guilty to drug charges- and returning to prison until 2001), he was "a commodities trader representing interests in Ukraine"- "he quickly re-established himself in the multimillion-dollar import-export business, but this time, moving legitimate commodities", "brokering business deals in the Ukraine".

The photo was not of Rove's daughter, it was Kimberlin who was pressing his own daughter against Rove.

All I know is that he was paroled from federal prison in Feb. of 1994, and was returned to federal prison 1997 for parole violations (until 2001). So it was in that time frame... '94-'97.

74. Curious where you got the idea that his "mistake was saying he sold drugs to dan quayle',
when the claim was made after he'd been in federal prison for 9 years. Just curious what you thought would have caused him to have been in federal prison at the time the claim was made.

22. John Wayne Gacy was actually a democrat
http://www.crimemagazine.com/boykillergacy.htm

Not many people who knew him would have suspected that John Wayne Gacy, a respected member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce in Des Plaines, Ill., a performing clown at neighborhood children's parties, a precinct captain in the local Democratic party, and the owner of his own contracting business would come to be known as one of the most prolific serial killers in U.S. history.

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0300475/bio

Gacy was also involved with the Democratic party and even had his picture taken with then First Lady Rosalynn Carter (wife of former President Jimmy Carter).

29. Do you think Charles Manson voted for Nixon????
The ridiculousness of this thread (and similar ones) is mind boggling. Every time some violent psycho show up, everyone wants to try and figure out who he (or she) voted for. First of all, the second guy you quoted is a Democrat. Second, to try to correlate violent criminal behavior with a political affiliation is absurd. The world is full of head cases. Democratic head cases and Republican head cases. (By the way, did you know Fred Phelps (and his family of funeral protesting nut jobs) is a long term activist Democrat?)

Lets see. A very high percentage of prison inmates are African American. The vast majority of African Americans are Democrats. So I guess most prison inmates and criminals are Democrats.

Illogical, isn't it?

People like Jim Jones and John Wayne Gacy, as grisly as their crimes were, do make good foils for this kind of conceit.

It's like one thread I recall after the big highway bridge collapse last year. Someone posted a reply to the effect that European democracies would never put up with that kind of shoddy work. Yet less than a year earlier, a new airport terminal in France collapsed spectacularly.

57. The Unabomber despised liberals. Here's a quote from his manifesto
that sounds eerily like many American conservatives:

"Leftists tend to hate anything that has an image of being strong, good and successful. They hate America, they hate Western civilization, they hate white males, they hate rationality. The reasons that leftists give for hating the West, etc. clearly do not correspond with their real motives. They SAY they hate the West because it is warlike, imperialistic, sexist, ethnocentric and so forth, but where these same faults appear in socialist countries or in primitive cultures, the leftist finds excuses for them, or at best he GRUDGINGLY admits that they exist; whereas he ENTHUSIASTICALLY points out (and often greatly exaggerates) these faults where they appear in Western civilization. Thus it is clear that these faults are not the leftist's real motive for hating America and the West. He hates America and the West because they are strong and successful."

...several people here will go to newsmeat.com first and foremost.

"Mr/Mrs DUer, I'm afraid I have some bad news for you."

"Oh no. Give it to me straight."

"I'm sorry to have to inform you that your son/daughter was tortured, killed, cooked, and eaten by Psycho McFreak, who
is now being held without bail. The scene is grim, to say the least."

"Oh no. No...no...this can't possibly be..."

"Mr/Mrs DUer, I'm afraid the news is even worse."

"How could it possibly be worse? Psycho McFreak buried fifty dead bodies under his house, and my child is one of them!"

"Well, you might want to sit down."

"I'll stand, thank you. I just hope it's not what I think it is..."

"Psycho McFreak is a Rep-"

"...REPUBLICAN? I KNEW IT!"

(even louder sobbing)

indicates any sort of political affiliation. More of the recent ones have been churchy, family values GOPs because of the cover hiding behind the cross and wrapped in the flag gives them.

Mostly, I think they would tend to be apolitical given normal times when political parties didn't present themselves as god's agents on the planet.

77. I think the Every Man for Himself theme appeals to killers...
so they probably are disproportionately Republican.

Still, being a Democrat doesn't offer complete protection from criminal psychosis. I read a lot of true crime, and there are liberal serial killers -- can't think of his name, now, but that awful pedophile who killed the family and kidnapped the little girl, who survived, is a democrat, if I remember correctly.
