Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) will launch a new push Tuesday to ingratiate himself with social conservatives who mistrust him but whose support is vital to his hopes of winning the White House.

Right-wing leaders, who know he needs their backing, are working on a list of demands to pin him down on choosing judges with a conservative philosophy.

The two sides are engaged in a minuet that will determine the shape of this year’s Republican presidential platform.

Seeking to overcome the right’s persistent mistrust, McCain will speak Tuesday on the importance of nominating conservative jurists to the federal courts, including the Supreme Court, and...............

3. And His Base Still Isn't That Solid...

Huggy Bear's support is a mile wide and an inch thick. Even more fun is the game going on between Gramps and the bloviators...pandering to the right wing in hopes they'll stick up for him like the goofy relative nobody really likes, but he's blood. In the meantime, each group is sure to be a pain in his ass as to keep this "support" he'll be kept on a short leash...any diviation from pandering to any of these groups and he'll suffer the worst fate a politician can face...not opposition but apathy.

Gramps needs at least as many GOOPers to show up this year as boooshie boy had in '04 to stand a chance this fall. To date I haven't seen a national poll that has Gramps anywhere near 50% and most have him under 45%...and this is during his "honeymoon"...he can pander and waver all over the place and the media's too convulsed on the Democratic pooh flinging they are giving him a free pass. But the right wingers sure aren't. They want blood from this dude if they're gonna pack the church buses...or to open up their checkbooks.
