Know your BFEE: Forget Rev. Wright! It’s Bush and His Cronies Who Owe an Apology for Rev. Moon!
Rev. Jeremiah Wright may have said some controversial things about God and the United States, but Rev. Moon has done things to corrupt the government of the United States. George Herbert Walker Bush, his sons and their cronies need to explain their longtime association and business relationships with Sun Myung Moon. The convicted tax offender is certainly a controversial religious leader, but also linked to the Korean CIA, the North Korean military, the Yakuza, the Fascist Internationale and the Medellin drug cartel. And after their explanation, they should start apologizing.

Here’s Neil Bush in lovely Paraguay on behalf of Rev Moon:

A few brave reporters have tracked and told the story, including Robert Parry, Marc Perkel and John Gorenfeld. Many good DUers have played a role in getting the word out, too.

Rev. Sun Myung Moon has done more than say weird things about the United States. He's done things to hurt the country. For examples:

Bush Family in the House of Moon

George H.W. Bush to speak at the Rev. Sun Myung Moon-owned Washington Times' 25th anniversary celebration in mid-May

By Bill Berkowitz
Thu Apr 19, 2007 at 03:01:31 PM EST

When former President George H.W. Bush takes the stage to deliver the keynote address in honor of the 25th anniversary of the ultra-conservative Washington Times newspaper in mid-May, it will not be the first time he has spoken in support of one of the Rev. Sun Myung Moon's enterprises.

And whatever fee Bush will realize from his appearance, it is only one aspect of what author Kevin Philips has termed Moon's "close" relationship with the Bush family.

SNIP...

"Besides the gift of the support of the Washington Times, Bush and his son have accepted large amounts of money from Moon's church," said Gorenfeld, the author of a forthcoming book about the Rev. Moon and U.S. politics.

SNIP...

Moon's enterprises extend far beyond the Unification Church, says Steve Hassan, an expert on cults and a licensed mental health counselor who was once a leader in the Moon organization.

"There are a number of business and political fronts; it's a multi-billion-dollar international conglomerate headed by a demagogue who claims that he's the greatest guy in history, who wants to abolish democracy, end or destroy the United Nations and set up a theocracy for his heirs to rule," Hassan told me in a telephone interview.

When the elder Bush takes to the podium next month, it would be surprising if the close relationship between the Bush family and Moon is scrutinized by the mainstream media, since it has been basically ignored or glossed over for decades, Hassan insists.

Poppy and Bar shaking it with Mrs. Moon and Bo Hi Pak.

Gee. Why don’t we see any of this in the newspapers and on the tee-vee? Well, it must be too complicated a story.

What's that? I can almost hear those who say: "Who cares? Why is this bad – a rich friend who 'helps' one out politically or economically, from time to time?"

Well, glad I thought you asked. For starters, Moon's rightwing Washington Times and a myriad of its business associations are used to defame political and media opponents and smear American heroes like John Kerry, a Democrat. They also ignore information regarding corruption of their friends.

So, what the tee-vee and newspapers get filled with is fertilizer from people like David Brooks, the kind of guy Rev Moon would marry to your sister.

Nice, huh? Brooks’ bio at The New York Times fails to mention that he once served the Washington Times. An accidental oversight, likely. His PBS bio, however, does mention the connection: “Brooks began his career as a wire reporter in New York City and joined The Washington Times in 1984 as a writer of editorials and film review.”

Hmmm. Entertainment news. Isn’t that how Bill O’Reilly got his start?

Must be, because they think alike. Here’s David B on Kevin Phillip’s latest work linking the House of Bush and the Empire of Moon:

The Paranoid Style

By David Brooks
New York Times

Op-Ed Columnist

There's always been a strain of paranoia running through American politics. Back in the mid-1960's, when the right felt powerless, the John Birch Society thrived. Today, when the left feels disinherited, liberals seize upon the conspiracy fantasies of Kevin Phillips, whose book "American Theocracy" is in its fifth week on The Times's best-seller list.

Phillips's method is pretty conventional for conspiracists — he takes a single issue or set of data points and constructs an all-explaining story line to show how hidden cabals are controlling America.

In the first part of "American Theocracy," he describes the rise of the "fossil-fuels political alliance." Dwight Eisenhower was "born in oil country" and in 1952 became the first Republican to sweep the Southern oil centers. Nixon too "had an oil-state childhood" and deepened oil's influence.

SNIP…

And while many informed critics have picked apart Phillips's fantasies, other Americans, at once cynical and naïve, are willing to believe any whacked-out theory, so long as it focuses hatred on Bush.

It's a funny way to run a theocracy.

Anyway. What is certain is that Brooks has helped “mainstream” Rev Moon’s right-wing publication, interesting theology and fascist political leanings.

The guy's a real artiste. Those are things Brooks never mentions.Instead of learning about what really matters, Brooks is paid to tell us about...

Barry the Bowler is a small thinker.
Empty Pantsuit’s got thick ankles.
Kevin Phillips is a conspiracy nut.

Not that he’d lie or anything on purpose, but he did leave out a bit of history. In the 80s, Moon labeled allegations of Iran-Contra drugs. Something else that got left out: Rev Moon and his organization moved into Bolivia and helped engineer the Cocaine Coup. Neat, huh?

Here are some more things Rev. Moon has done we don't hear too much about:

Moon/Bush 'Ongoing Crime Enterprise'

By Robert Parry

From petty local scams to international money-laundering, the Rev. Sun Myung Moon’s political/media/business/religious empire has all the looks of a global “ongoing criminal enterprise,” albeit one with enough powerful friends in Washington to protect it from serious consequences.

SNIP…

So, while prosecutors mostly look the other way, Moon continues to pour an estimated $100 million a year into his influential Washington Times newspaper and other pro-Republican media outlets. Additional millions have gone to fund right-wing political conferences; to pay speaking fees to world leaders, such as former President George H.W. Bush; and to bail political allies out of financial troubles.

SNIP…

In the post-World War II years, some Nazi war criminals chose reclusive lives, but others, such as former SS officer Klaus Barbie, sold their intelligence skills to less-sophisticated security services in countries like Bolivia or Paraguay.
Other Nazis on the lam trafficked in narcotics. Often the lines crossed between intelligence operations and criminal conspiracies.

SNIP…

Cocaine Coup

Cocaine Coup

In 1980, Moon made more friends in South America when a right-wing alliance of Bolivia military officers and drug dealers organized what became known as the Cocaine Coup. WACL associates, such as Alfred Candia, coordinated the arrival of some of the paramilitary operatives who assisted in the violent putsch.

Right-wing Argentine intelligence officers mixed with a contingent of young European neo-fascists collaborating with Nazi war criminal Barbie in carrying out the bloody coup that overthrew the elected left-of-center government.
The victory put into power a right-wing military dictatorship indebted to the drug lords. Bolivia became South America’s first narco-state.

One of the first well-wishers arriving in La Paz to congratulate the new government was Moon’s top lieutenant, Bo Hi Pak. The Moon organization published a photo of Pak meeting with the new strongman, General Garcia Meza.

After the visit to the mountainous capital, Pak declared, “I have erected a throne for Father Moon in the world’s highest city.”

According to later Bolivian government and newspaper reports, a Moon representative invested about $4 million in preparations for the coup. Bolivia’s WACL representatives also played key roles, and CAUSA, one of Moon’s anti-communist organizations, listed as members nearly all the leading Bolivian coup-makers.

Soon, Colonel Luis Arce-Gomez, a coup organizer and the cousin of cocaine kingpin Roberto Suarez, went into partnership with big narco-traffickers, including Trafficante’s Cuban-American smugglers. Nazi war criminal Barbie and his young neo-fascist followers found new work protecting Bolivia’s major cocaine barons and transporting drugs to the border.

“I want to salute Reverend Moon,” Bush declared. “A lot of my friends in South America don’t know about the Washington Times, but it is an independent voice. The editors of the Washington Times tell me that never once has the man with the vision (Moon) interfered with the running of the paper, a paper that in my view brings sanity to Washington, D.C.”

The evidence trail shows Nixon, Reagan, Poppy and Smirko heard the call. And Corporate McPravda is no where around when you need them.

You make an excellent point, Herdin_Cats. It's not just Liberals who don't get no respect at all -- it's We the American People.

For Democracy and our Republic to survive, we need a Free press. Instead, what we get, is propaganda telling us its OK to make war on a country that was no threat to us, for instance. I don't even hear about a POLL asking how much of the public knows an illegal and immoral war has created billions of dollars in profits for certain, connected corporations. Like Halliburton.

33. ask? imho...yes ask, but how about something beyond using a NWO site
as some have before even acting like this charge has any legitimacy of any kind? I agree with you 100%, as in ask, yes, but absent a smidgen of evidence I think the rumor is a hindrance, a distraction. That "opus die-mormon-moonie" axis. What horseshit. Just a way for people to ignore what we do know as FACT about Moon.

Hell, most of the country doesn't know Moon is alive let alone that he has influence over all their lives. Please, let's stay on what we know, what more we can find and document before going into idle "allegedly" speculation.

I made a couple comments about this subject in this thread.

SNIP...

The scorching sun beats relentlessly on one of Latin America’s most desolate zones. It is here in the northern province of Chaco, directly above the GuaranI aquifer, the largest resource of fresh drinking water in the world, where Moon’s associates claim he wishes to build an ecological paradise.

Nevertheless, national Senator Domingo Laino sees a different pattern in Moon’s acquisitions. “There are two principal branches to Moon’s interest in Paraguay,” he said, “control of the largest fresh drinking water source in the world and control of the narcotics business”, which is so prevalent in this area. “President Lula told me that Brazil took serious measures to curb Moon a few years back as it became evident that he was buying up the border between our two countries,” said the senator.

Allegations from local law enforcement officials support this claim. The so-called Dr Montiel, Paraguay’s drugs tsar from 1976-89, said: “The fact that they came and bought in Chaco and on both sides of the Brazilian border is very telling. It is an enormously strategic point in both the narcotics and arms trades and indeed the available intelligence clearly shows that the Moon sect is involved in both these enterprises.”

Paraguay is the major drugs port through which virtually all the cocaine produced by Bolivia and Peru passes. In the world’s second most corrupt country, “the ease of buying influence is second to none”, said Montiel. “Corruption reaches dangerous levels and he who wants transparency in Paraguay is a dead man. Indeed the famous Iran contra affair was operated from Ciudad del Este” on the south-east Paraguayan border with Argentina and Brazil.

Not content with expanses of potentially invaluable land, Rev Moon has also taken over entire towns, including factories and homes. In Puerto Casado, tensions between Moon disciples and locals led to violent confrontation over the last year following the closure of the only source of work, a lumber factory, and the dismissal of 19 workers who tried to form a union in order to demand an eight-hour day and the national minimum wage of GBP80 sterling per month.

According to Senator Emilio Camacho: “The Moon sect is a mafia. They seek to subvert government control and are effectively building a state within a state. I believe they are hoping the local population will leave so they have unquestioned authority in the zone and are free to do whatever they want.”

US presidents brother visits Paraguay president as guest of Moon-founded group

By Pedro Servin
ASSOCIATED PRESS

ASUNCION, Parguay – Neil Bush, younger brother of U.S. President George W. Bush, called on Paraguay's president as the guest of a business federation founded by the Rev. Sun Myung Moon.
A presidential press office source, who spoke on condition of not being named, confirmed the younger Bush met President Nicanor Duarte on Thursday along with a delegation from the Universal Peace Federation, a group associated with Moon.

Duarte himself had no statement on the meeting.

Antonio Betancourt, a spokesman for the federation, said that Bush visited Duarte and later met with an opposition congressional leader, Sen. Miguel Abdon Saguier, and that both expressed interest in the Bush family and discussed local matters.

Betancourt said Bush later attended a leadership seminar sponsored by the federation.

The federation's Web site says it is trying to promote peace in the Middle East, South Asia and other regions, as well as proposing an 50-mile, $200 billion tunnel linking Siberia and Alaska.

A leading Paraguayan newspaper, ABC Color, reported Friday that Bush spoke at the leadership seminar about instilling a “culture of service” and better uniting individuals and organizations behind objectives that serve peace and the common good.

25. Moon and the "Archives of terror" in Paraguay
thanks again octafish for your good work. here's a little something to add to your files...

http://ipsnews.net/africa/print.asp?idnews=30309

SOUTH AMERICA:
'Archives of Terror' Yield New Horrors

Darío Montero

The so-called "archives of terror" discovered by a human rights lawyer in Paraguay over a decade ago continue to yield new information on the cooperation between the de facto regimes that ruled much of South America in the 1970s and 1980s.

MONTEVIDEO, Sep 16 (IPS) - Paraguayan activist and lawyer Martín Almada visited Uruguay this week to hand over documents recently found in the archives of terror, which indicate that the number of Uruguayans who were detained in Paraguay during the dictatorial regimes was much greater than human rights groups had previously realised.

In December 1992, Almada, who was held as a political prisoner and tortured in his country in the 1970s, came across a room full of official records in a police station near the Paraguayan capital.

The hundreds of thousands of documents that he basically discovered by accident pertain to the torture and forced disappearances carried out by the dictatorship of Gen. Alfredo Stroessner (1954-1989) in Paraguay.

But the archives of terror are especially important because they contain secret documents shedding light on Operation Condor, a coordinated plan among the military governments that ruled Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay in the 1970s and 1980s, aimed at tracking down, capturing and eliminating left-wing opponents. ...

Although there is abundant information on flights carrying political prisoners between Argentina and Uruguay, until now activists did not have official records showing that such flights existed between Uruguay and Paraguay.

"I also gave the Uruguayan Congress a copy of the document that records the birth of Operation Condor (in late 1975 in Chile) and outlines the mechanisms by which it functioned, as well as a list of Uruguayan officers who belonged to the so-called Anti-Communist League in 1977, which formed the basis of that repressive plan," said Almada.

"These documents also indicate that Korean Reverend Sun Myung Moon's Unification Church had links" to Operation Condor as well, he added.

Almada said that in September 1977, after Jimmy Carter became president of the United States, the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) withdrew its support from Operation Condor.

Documents declassified in recent years in Washington, D.C. clearly demonstrate that Operation Condor was backed by the United States since its creation at the initiative of the Chilean dictatorship of Gen. Augusto Pinochet (1973-1990).

After September 1977, "ties began to appear between Moon's sect and the local and Latin American Anti-Communist League. A finance company, Urundel, was even set up in Paraguay to serve as a bank for the repressive operations in that country," said Almada.

He added that Operation Condor, which basically kept its "administrative headquarters" in Paraguay, was conceived of and led by the armed forces in the region, which often made use of the police to help with the "dirty work". Industrialists were also accomplices in the case of Paraguay, he noted.

this ones link is dead but here is what it said...

Paraguay overshadowed still by clouds of dictatorship

...
However, in the wake of the adoption of a human rights policy by U.S. President Jimmy Carter during his term from 1976 to 1980, support for Operation Condor was cut off by the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency in 1977.

Almada claimed that Stroessner then relied primarily for guidance and assistance in Operation Condor activities on the Unification Church of the South Korean Sun Myung Moon sect under the cover of the World Anti-Communist League and the Pacific Anti-Communist League, both of which were backed by the KMT regime and headquartered in Taipei.

Moonies try to claim Moon stopped support of the torturing dictators in the 70s, another deception fort he pile.

quoting: page 254-5 "Inside the League" – Scott Anderson and Jon Lee Anderson 1986

General Alfredo Stroessner, the dictator of Paraguay, sent a telegram thanking the League for 'DEFENDING THE WOLRD FROM THE Marxist tyranny," then went on to boast breathlessly of his own contributions to the cause. …

The crowning endorsement, however, had to be that of President Roald Reagan.

It is an honor to send warm greetings to al l those gathered for the 17th Annual Conference of the World Anti-Communist League in San Diego.

The World Anti-Communist League has long played a leadership role in drawing attention to the gallant struggle now being waged by the true freedom fighters of our day. Nancy and I send our best wishes for every future success.

Another element objectionable to some mainstream conservatives, the Unification Church, had not been purged in San Diego. In fact, its presence had grown. Many of the American observers to the conference were involved with Reverend Sun Myung Moon through any one of his myriad front groups. Among these were Ray Cline, Director of the United States Global Security Council, and Roger Fontaine, a former National Security Council official and currently a reporter for the Moon-owned Washington Times. The Reverend Moon may have called the League a "fascist" organization in 1975, but he still wanted to be part of it in 1984. ("Inside the League" – Scott Anderson and Jon Lee Anderson 1986)

WASHINGTON - President Reagan wrote twice in his personal diary that he was worried about Sen. Orrin Hatch, once because the Utah Republican was "on a thin edge" and another time when Hatch turned the tables on the White House and attacked Reagan's staff.

Then-Nevada Sen. Paul Laxalt "has agreed to call Orin Hatch (sic) who has suddenly gone off the reservation & is throwing rocks at me & the exec. Staff," Reagan wrote in a Nov. 10, 1987 diary entry.

...

Hatch made another appearance in Reagan's diary over the senator's efforts to get a pardon for the Rev. Sun Yung Moon, the founder of the Unification Church who was convicted of filing false income tax returns and conspiracy. Hatch objected to the jailing of Moon on grounds that it came close to violating his freedom of religion rights.

"Senator Hatch is after me to grant clemency to the Rev. Moon," Reagan wrote in a Dec. 24, 1984 entry. "I've explored this & find I just can't. I have, however taken action to see if I can grant him a furlough over New Years. It seems that day is the holiest in that religion."

UN to Appoint Former Moonie as Head of World Food Programme
• Candidate was Unification Church figure for 20 years
• Bush administration is backing application

by John Hooper and Ed Pilkington
Published on Tuesday, November 7, 2006 by the Guardian / UK

Kofi Annan will this week put a former leading "Moonie" in charge of the UN's biggest humanitarian aid agency after vigorous lobbying by the Bush administration.

Josette Sheeran is to be appointed executive director of the UN World Food Programme (WFP), according to diplomatic and UN sources.

Ms Sheeran, also known by her married name Shiner, was a member of the Rev Sun Myung Moon's Unification Church for more than 20 years. She became one of its most influential figures as managing editor of the Washington Times newspaper, which was founded by Mr Moon.

A US state department spokesman said last week that Ms Sheeran, the under-secretary of state for economic, business and agricultural affairs, was "our candidate". He acknowledged that a pamphlet circulated in support of her application had been funded by US taxpayers and said Condoleezza Rice, the secretary of state, had "made phone calls in support of Josette's candidacy".

SNIP...

However, in Rome, where WFP has its headquarters, some officials privately expressed concern. "She has never distanced herself from the views of this group which, given its extreme nature, you would think was appropriate," said one. He referred to Mr Moon's claims that the Holocaust was a result of the death of Jesus. "It's sufficiently bizarre to warrant an explanation - that, and the duration of her involvement."

Her departure from the Unification Church was reported by the Washington Post in 1997, which said Ms Sheeran had been worshipping at an Episcopal (Anglican) church for the previous 18 months.

29. She got the job and claims that she longer
has contact with the Unification Church. That is something even Moon can say since he sort of disbanded the "church" and renamed it.

However did you see this? Shiner, when at the State Department, had as her senior adviser a long time Moon follower.

The Unification Church of the Rev. Sun Myung Moon, who like Uruguay's military rulers is strongly opposed to Communism, has become one of the largest foreign investors here. In the last three years, the church has invested some $70 million in buying Uruguay's third largest bank, a hotel, a ...

37. How many are being blackmailed or are Manchurian Moonies? What would be a better
way for Moonie to get his clutches on Congress than by running his own minions?

I do believe that Papa Bush was blackmailed after the Moonie Times ran this

As to Uruguay..I don't know how much more time Moonie will have there as they now have a leftist Pres.

49. Bo Hi Pak said Ronald Reagan GUSHED over Moon and Moonie Times

Reagan thanked Rev. Moon

When Reagan's term was almost over, he invited me, as the President and Publisher of The Washington Times, to the Oval Office in the White House. As can be seen in this picture, he firmly shook my hand in appreciation and said, "Dr. Pak, no one appreciates the value of The Washington Times more than I. Without The Washington Times, my Reagan Doctrine would have been a failure. It could not have triumphed over the Brezhnev Doctrine. Would you kindly convey my deep thanks and appreciation to Rev. Moon, the founder of The Washington Times, who made this most precious investment for freedom?" At this point, may I invite you to give one warm round of applause for President Reagan?

George Bush and the end of communism

The Washington Times also supported the 1988 election of George Bush as the 41st president of the United States. Today, we should give more appreciation to those great heroes, Presidents Ronald Reagan and George Bush, as the liberators of the communist empire. But in my heart, behind the scenes, who produced these two heroes? It was Rev. Moon and God.

51. Senior McCain adviser helped arrange Rev. Moon coronation
Edited on Tue May-13-08 12:26 PM by Octafish
The story goes into overtime...

Senior McCain adviser helped arrange Rev. Moon coronation

05/09/2008 @ 1:50 pm
Filed by Nick Juliano

A bizarre Capitol Hill ceremony a few years ago in which the eccentric conservative publisher the Rev. Sun Myung Moon declared himself the Second Coming was organized with help from a senior adviser to John McCain's presidential campaign.

Charlie Black, a Washington lobbyist and McCain confidant, lent his name to the coronation ceremony and invited a few friends, according to newly disclosed e-mails.

"What is clear from this email is that top Mccain advisor Charlie Black is admitting that he helped plan, and would have attended, an event where a convicted tax fraud would have been crowned King Of America and declared himself the Messiah--all on U.S. Government federal property (on March 23, 2004)," writes author Cliff Schecter, who published the e-mails on his blog Friday.

In the e-mails, which were also obtained by RAW STORY, Black said he became involved because of his relationships with executives at the Washington Times, the conservative, Moon-owned newspaper, and its charitable foundation.

"I think the dinner committee list included a number of us 'secular' conservatives," Black writes in one e-mail to author John Gorenfeld, who has explored Moon's influence in Washington in his book Bad Moon Rising.

Black said he did not know Moon personally and was unable to attend the coronation ceremony, which Gorenfeld details here. (The full e-mails are reprinted below.)

Son of Moonies founder takes over as church leader

• Move aimed at broadening appeal of movement

• Harvard man at helm, but father will retain control

Justin McCurry in Tokyo
The Guardian, Saturday April 26 2008

Sun Myung Moon, the founder of the Unification church known globally as the Moonies, has handed over control of the movement to his Harvard-educated youngest son in what is being seen as an attempt to broaden the controversial religious organisation's appeal.

In a ceremony near Seoul last week, 28-year-old Hyung Jin Moon was anointed chairman of the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification, the name the church has used since the late 1990s. "I hope everyone helps him so that he may fulfil his duty as the successor of the True Parents," Moon, 88, said, in a characteristically immodest reference to himself and his wife.

Moon the younger, who was born in the state of New York, promised to "develop the church and to connect as many people as possible" to his parents. "I will do my best to bring the love of the True Parents and God to every corner of the world."

Experts say Hyung Jin, the youngest of seven sons, who has five children of his own, is being groomed to secure his ageing father's legacy more than 50 years after he founded the Unification church in South Korea, declaring himself the new messiah with the aim of establishing a single world government under his leadership.

The new leader, a philosophy and theology graduate, practised Zen Buddhism and lived in a Catholic monastery, and has been described as the "most spiritual" of Moon's children. In his book, A Bald Head and a Strawberry, he writes: "I was the youngest boy of the family and probably the most nutty."

" has been grooming his three sons for a bigger role for three years," Timothy Read, a spokesman for the church in London, told the Guardian. "The Unification church is not just a church these days, but an international organisation with many interests. Religion is just one aspect of that. The reverend decided a while ago that it would encounter difficulties if it was simply known as a church and decided to broaden its activities."

SNIP...

Experts say Moon's eldest son, Hyo Jin, might have been a more obvious choice as successor but was overlooked after scandals over drugs and extramarital sex. He died of a heart attack last month, at 45.

Where did the Web rumors about Obama come from?

By Matt Stearns
McClatchy Newspapers
Posted on Thursday, May 8, 2008

EXCERPT...

In fact, they tend to be the work of committed political amateurs.

One practitioner in Virginia, who hates Obama like a dog hates cats, led a reporter through his efforts. Because the man is a retired clandestine CIA officer, identifying him could endanger officers or operations that remain classified, so McClatchy will not reveal his name.

In late 2006, convinced that an Obama presidency would be disastrous for America, he decided to start an anti-Obama operation. He combed the public record on Obama. He used a couple of allies and informants — half-jokingly dubbing his group "The Crusaders" — to learn about Obama's background, especially his Africa connection and how he came to be the editor of the Harvard Law Review.

He assembled a dossier on Obama, including allegations that Obama attended a madrassa, or Islamic religious school, in his youth in Indonesia.

Then the retired spook tried to get Israeli intelligence officials interested in his Obama dossier. They weren't, to his chagrin. He also shopped it to some foreign reporters. Again, no luck.

He wound up posting some of it on a blog — and where it went from there in the vast world of cyberspace is anybody's guess.

But a few months after the man began his work, the allegation that Obama was educated in a madrassa appeared in an anonymous article in Insight Magazine, an online publication of the Unification Church, in January 2007. It also claimed that Clinton operatives had dug up the information. The article was cited by several conservative commentators, including on Fox News, before it was debunked.

45. Book Recommendation - Bad Moon Rising - I'm reading it
Bad Moon Rising: How Reverend Moon Created the Washington Times, Seduced the Religious Right, and Built an American Kingdom by John Gorenfeld

From Amazon.com

Joe Conason
"No American reporter knows more than John Gorenfeld about Sun Myung Moon's hidden influence and megalomaniacal ambitions. His investigations have explored Moon's deep penetration of the religious right, the conservative media, and elite political circles from the Bush family to Capitol Hill. This fascinating book brings the story up to date - and explains why you should still worry."

Review
BAD MOON RISING is a riveting investigation into how a cult leader has guilefully infiltrated and exploited the very heart of our democracy. John Gorenfeld lays bare the real story no one else has dared to tell. -- Sarah Posner, God's Profits: Faith, Fraud, and the Republican Crusade for Values Voters "???"

Product Description
John Gorenfeld's Bad Moon Rising takes readers into the chilling Washington underworld of the Reverend Sun Myung Moon, whose cult-like Unification Church calls him the True Father. Whether claiming endorsements from George Washington, pronouncing Jesus obsolete or dictating sex positions to his followers, Moon has pursued loopy schemes for decades. For the first time, Bad Moon Rising tells the full story of the reverend's coronation in U.S. Senate offices in 2004; his quest to become world leader; his founding of a media empire with the creation of The Washington Times and purchase of United Press International; and his unlikely influence on the GOP propaganda machine, financing the stories that make Fox News Channel. Although Beltway conservatives rarely acknowledge their embarrassing patron, Gorenfeld is not afraid to follow the money to famous names and shameful secrets, revealing a hidden saga of political corruption, lost souls, and megalomania.

From the Back Cover

Here's a headline from the Times he might not like... Of course, it's vanished from the public consciousness. Makes one wonder about Jeff Gannon.

The Times takes a lot of heat, but I have no problem with it. Sure, they're biased, but they don't try to hide it at all, and from time to time they'll actually do some serious reporting that the other guys won't(admittedly, not often enough).
