John Edwards
(I am posting this in GD because he's not a candidate and not officially invested in the outcome. But mostly I'm posting this here because I am hoping for a non-overheated answer.)

Is he jockeying for another veep slot? I would have expected him to have endorsed already. He hasn't. He's stayed amazingly neutral and even handed about the two remaining candidates. It makes me wonder why.

Note, I think one politician endorsing another is silly for the endorsee and mostly self-serving for the endorser - so good on Edwards on that score.

1. Perhaps neither he or Elizabeth really like either candidate? They are entitled.
He has already said he doesn't want to be Veep, about a month ago.

2. Edwards has already said NO to the VP position.
Been there, done that.

I'm glad he and Elizabeth haven't endorsed. I see no reason for them to do so at this point.

3. I doubt Edwards will be offered or take the VP position.
I assume he is waiting for the primaries to play out, before joining in campaign.

4. Edwards promised to support the nominee. It makes good sense
to me that he is not endorsing either candidate. He seems to like and dislike things about each of the candidates' platforms. Maybe it is a draw for him.

5. yea, he is not showing his support for neither candidate,
until there is only one left standing. Good strategy to me.

7. He's damaged goods

Talking about class, even in hushed tones, is verboten. I thought it odd, the way he quit, suspect he was warned off. Don't know if either of the corporate candidates would have him even if he wanted it, and I'd like to thing he wouldn't, but who knows, he's been pretty mum.

8. Wow-a candidate with integrity. How rare is that?!
Meanwhile, we get to watch and listen to the empty rhetoric of the two other "historic" candidates who manipulate every issue (issues like Iraq that they wouldn't even discuss a few months ago) while also trying to buy themselves the nomination. Sickening. :puke:

21. exactly. I hate them both.
Maybe hate is too strong a word. But I seriously dislike them so I am not going to vote in November. I live in Texas so it is not like my vote counts anyway.

29. Damn shame isn't it? Left with two candidates that won't buck the system if either one manages to
get elected. x( Hope this "historic" election was worth it. :argh:

9. He's jockeying for a cabinet position
but I think he's withholding his endorsement until one of the candidates comes to his or her senses and adopts his health care plan.

Funny, campaigns used to be when candidates would promise 2 cars in every driveway and a chicken in every pot. These days, the Democrats are especially leery of promising anything much beyond business as usual.

I doubt either candidate will adopt a common sense health plan until long after the election, if then.

And Edwards will probably do lukewarm campaigning for the candidate who emerges from the convention, but that's it.

10. I thik the Edwards' really care about their issues more than a specific position
by not endorsing and remaining neutral, they remain able to influence both candidates re: their issues and will continue to be able to have influence once a nominee is determined. It's a safe bet for them because no matter who wins, they can't be in position of having supported the opposite side. It leaves all doors open to them and none closed.

12. There was a rumor not long ago that she would be campaigning in NC .......
...... for one of the candidates, but that he would not be.

The candidate doesn't matter. I have heard nothing about her campaigning at all.

Had you heard any of this?

for not endorsing anyone in this already overheated battle. I believe they're acting as "good Democrats" and letting the people have their say without undue influence from other politicians.

31. My apologies
Sorry. But that massive mansion always rubbed me the wrong way from a man championing the plight of the poor. But that is old news.

On topic, no I don't think Edwards is in the running for VP. He didn't really bring much to the table in '04 so I don't think he's a draw this time around.

18. An endorsement would surely secure influence
So it's curious that he doesn't endorse. My take is that it tells us how up in the air the nomination is in his eyes. That's sobering.

"Unless of course you think he is like every other politician and his word is meaningless..."

Are you trying to pick a fight?

Your post's title was sufficient to convey your meaning, but you felt the need to change the tone.

Why?

28. I was just displaying my disgust for politicians
I didn't mean it to sound like I was picking a fight. I just get that way when I hear people say Edwards is some sort of saint of something. If anyone takes the time to look at his record in the Senate one can easily see he is exactly the same as all the others. He flips on many issues and favors many of the wrong issues IMO..Remember he was a Co-Sponsor for the IWR. He didn't just vote for it he very actively pushed hard for it. Why??????Who was he Pandering to?
