Hey! You!!
Have you bashed a fellow Democrat today? Depending on your point of view, both Hillary and Obama have big targets painted on their faces. Just let 'er rip. No one will mind. Really.

I have to admit this primary season has left me rather cynical about the whole political process. Sucks, but there you have it. I can't really throw myself behind either of the two potential candidates at this point. I envy those for whom it seemed so simple once their initial favorite had dropped out, or been chased out, of the race.

Of course, the fact that I've been in pain for the past several months probably isn't helping. I've been doing the doctor dance trying to find the ultimate source of the pain and it has so far been of little avail. The best they can do for now is managing the symptoms.

I'm still upbeat and optimistic over all, which is a good thing. Pain can make me cranky, but no more than watching people I've grown to respect and admire sniping at one another over their choices for Presidential candidate. The Republicans are probably chortling in unsuppressed joy over all of this. Sure, McCain isn't all THAT popular among some of the conservative set, but at least he's not being ripped apart on a daily basis by his supposed allies.

Meet the New Boss. Same as the Old Boss. Only worse. Bush is a self-absorbed nitwit. McCain's nucking futz. Be a shame if we helped usher him into the WH, wouldn't it?

"Hey," some might say, "Hillary's just as bad."

Huh. Even considering the fact that she's not my choice, I find that hard to swallow.

"Obama admires Reagan," some might say. "He is friends with all these Republicans. His Minister is an asshole."

Politics can sure be a nasty business. Glad I'm not in the game full time.

Not an ounce of all the bashing that's been going on has shifted me either one way or the other. While it might be true that America responds to negative campaigning, though the majority constantly decry it, I can say that it sure as hell doesn't sway MY opinion one way or another. All it's managed to do is lower my expectations and tarnish the image of people I thought better of.

Oh...enough of that. I've got more important things to talk about. Me, for example. :D Okay. Not me. My books. I've got seven on the market and one in the wings. Plus two more I'm currently working on--albeit slowly--and several short stories.

I've started another blog too. About writing, life, the universe, and everything. Or, as the title suggests, Infinity and everything else.

I can do snark as well as the next fellow, but I figure there's enough snark out here on the web without contributing to it. So expect a more positive tone than most. I won't be using my blog-space to mock or belittle anyone. Even when it comes time for me to criticize someone, I'll try to do it constructively.

No politics. At least not directly. I'm not going to try to sell my readers on liberal values, or promote one or more candidates for public office. I may include some social commentary, but that's going to be about it as far as that goes. As much as I'd like to drag everyone into the light, the current atmosphere makes even the light of truth just another weapon on the field of battle. Why risk my readers to the indignity of friendly fire?

Pssst. Want to buy a book? How about a couple?

Good news is apparently my debut novel is in the first few hundred in sales out of the thousands sold by Fictionwise. THAT's not a bad achievement, particularly when you consider that it's only out in e-book formats, and that it doesn't quite measure up to some of my later books.

I'm really doing a big push for "Tales from the Magitech Lounge" right now. It's my favorite of all those currently on the market, but, because it's not billed as a "romance" novel of any kind, it's been hard to get most of the more popular review sites to bother with it.

Romance dominates genre fiction on the web right now. I would initially have expected sci-fi, at least, to lead the charge, but it seems like the geek brigade is a little slow out of the gate. Not that there isn't romance in "Tales." I think romance is one of many requirements to telling a well-rounded story.

The fact of the matter is that my body is telling me in no uncertain terms that I've treated it badly for too many years and, while I LOOK much younger than my actual age, I actually feel older. Let me tell you, that SUCKS. The way things are going for me, my only hope of avoiding the sort of physical work that seems to be aggravating my condition is to build up a larger fan base and sell more books. And that requires making a spectacle of myself whether I like it or not.

Hence the new blog.

I haven't ever been shy about self-promotion here, some might say. There's some truth to that, but less than many might suppose. I HATE the self-promotion crap I have to do. It stinks. It conflicts directly with what I see as the necessary introspective and introverted perspective my writing requires of me in general. It SHOULD be all about the story. But readers want to know about the person behind them.

So there I go, peeling back my masks and poking my head over the barricades. Who is Saje Williams, really?

I suppose this blog is intended to answer that question.

Thanks for reading. I now return you to your regularly scheduled conflict.

Be well.
